    Re: Heroes,Role models

Tracy McGrady seems like a good choice, but Tim Duncan should be the top role model in the league.

as a Pacers fan, I would argue from the old days, Mark Jackson, adn of course Reggie Miller

the top would have to be David Robinson

but like I aid earlier, ur ultimate role model shouold be ur parents

YOu can respect athletes for there talent, but we dont know them enoguh to jusge them as people

I don't think kids should be looking up to or trying to follow what anybody does on TV. Be it sports of any kind or any other kind of entertainment programming. Reason being, it's all for entertainment. I see nothing wrong with kids admiring them for what they do, but they shouldn't be their hero or role model. Parents, friends, and maybe even teachers should try to fill that role.

I agree. kids should look up to parents, mentorsm people who you know have good character.. not people that can give you 35 ppg, a 110 QB rating or hit .400... however we should admire their physical accomplishments.

That's so easy to say. But for many kids, their parents and teachers have personalities of doorknobs, at best. They go looking for outside influences, and see them on television.

Parents and teachers can say these things all they want, and it sounds great, but it's just nonsense unless they get the kids to actually pay attention to them. The sad fact is, many teachers in this country are teaching simply because they have nothing else they can do, and the majority of parents shouldn't have kids.

That is a sad fact, but you can't just write them off like that. And I know it's easy to say and hard to do, which is why everyone should make a real effort to try to the best of their abilities to do what is right for their kids. I know there are parents here on OS, and I hope that they were ready for them. Cause it's a life long job that they have.

I don't have kids, but my brother does, and I see the way they handle her. It concerns me at times, but I think they are trying their best. My parents did a good job on raising us, and I think most people have the ability to. It just take a lot of effort and time, which I don't think some people are doing these days.
