The real question is why cant people stay out of trouble? Why do we hold athletes to a higher standard? Most athletes are less educated then most people biut when they get into crimes that everyday people get into people cat like its a huge deal? I bet there a ton of people on this board who have done some drug (smoked weed for example) in their life. The only differnece between those people and Damon Stoudamire is that he got caught (also I dont think anybody here would vbe stupid enough to try to take it through an airport).

People (not just atheletes) get into trouble all the time. The only difference is when they get arrested iots on the news.

I agree, but saying atheletes are less educated? They know whats wrong and what is right, and what the consequences are when you do something wrong as any of us. Not much education in that i think, especially with the example of kobe being an intelligent guy and still get in trouble.

I'm thinking since these atheletes have a lot of money they think they can get away with somethings. We all grown up knowing that, if you have more money the more you can get away with, and as soon as these guys get rich they are much more bold to do things they were less likely to get away with before.

good points. I'm not saying every athlete isnt educated but a majority of them arent. Many of today's athletes may go to college but that doesnt meant that they learn anything while they are there.

Absolutely. I mean, I do think it's a combination of everything that has been mentioned (lack of education, feeling of invincibility based upon wealth, etc.), but the other thing is that we hear about every little thing that happens to these guys.

Go to the local courthouse tomorrow, and you'll see all types of people brought up on all types of charges. But you'll not see those cases on page 1 of every newspaper, or as the lead story on every media outlet. They'll be reported in the local newspaper's "police blotter," if anything. There's a difference with serious crimes such as murder, rape, etc., but for the most part, Joe Criminal never sees his name in the papers.

One thing that separates the athletes, though, is their wealth. Not only do they think they can get away with more, it also doesn't matter to them if they get caught. An everyday individual brought up on a first-time drug charge or DUI faces a steep fine, legal bills, the loss of his job, etc. But an NBA player pays the fine out of the roll of bills in his pocket, in some cases gets free legal representation, and knows he will keep his job.
Quit making your stupid YouTube videos and start playing the game.

the only thing i have to say about kobe and this girl is i feel sorry for this girl if this did happen the way it might from a prosecutors point of view. all ready people are scruntizing this poor girl saying she was depressed and sucideal (sp?). this girl's whole life is going to be out from the media for the world to see and that's really sad IMO.
