I've heard other anecdotal discussions of similar situations, like Big Baby's slap/tug. I'm trying to remember the specific player, but I can't off the top of my head. It was in an article somewhere, but they were talking about slapping a guy on the wrist if you knew he had a wrist injury. Those dudes were cold blooded back in the 80s/90s, man. What BB did was right in line with how they played back then, and Jordan not only did it, but was kind of proud of it. He viewed it as an aspect of competition at the highest level.

The difference between this and undercutting a guy being that the BB/MJ situations are an instance of you initiating the same kind of contact you normally would. So would BB grab Shaq's arm/slap his thumb normally? Why yes, of course he would. Now that he knows he's hurt, he'll make sure not to forget those slaps, and that they are aimed at the target area.

You gotta know that Jordan not only did the same things himself, but preferred to have teammates who would also do these things. As long as it wasn't excessive contact, it was all fair game.

I know what you're talking about but this is not that situation.

Slap at his wrist but faking like youre going for a block but you slap his hand then slap it again for good measure during a foul. Thats the same as unnecessary roughness in the NFL

Yanking on a guy to specifically injure him not go after his injury, this dude is wack

Big Z will be back in a few more weeks as well.
but until those 25 days till Z comes back will be tough.

i think that he got hurt as bad as he did , because many years ago. When shaq was playing her in orlando that same thumb got broken by then miami heat center matt geiger. Shaq missed 4-6 weeks early and had to get pin put in.

It really won't. I believe the only top team the Cavaliers play is the Magic and they'll probably beat us.

The Cavaliers should run the other teams out of the building now that they'll be going fairly small with Andy, Jamison, Hickson and Powe.

              It's a funny/weird situation in Cleveland.

There's obviously a large sentiment that feel as if Cleveland is sharper when Shaq is not there, but it's probably also largely agreed upon that they need him to beat Orlando in a series.

I can't remember the last time there was a situation like this.

Opinions on Shaq and how good of an option he is at this point in his career for LBJ are very interesting. I've read on OS very ranging opinions on this topic.

Shaq is still a threat in the low post in todays NBA because he affects the floor with his size and his passing skills if nothing else.

He's never been a guy you could ignore on the court. Come playoff time he is definitely an asset.

That's because Shaq is very dependent, at this point in his career, around how the team around him is doing.

If the Cavaliers are not hitting shots, they can throw it inside to Shaq and try to get some easy buckets rather than LeBron destroying his body for the whole game. If the Cavaliers are hitting their shots, Shaq becomes what basically amounts to a role player.

It also depends on the team. Shaq is fairly useless when the Cavaliers play a team with a fast, quick front court. However, he is extremely valuable when the Cavaliers play against a team based on the low post or paint penetration.

The Cavaliers will miss Shaq, it'd be crazy to say they would not miss him. However, it won't be a total collapse that will send them spiraling down to the 3 seed or anything like that.

Losing Shaq definitely doesn't mean a damn thing as far as seeding.

Cavs will handle any team out East without Shaq IMO in the playoffs except Orlando.

It's Shaq we're talking about here.

I see Aaron beat me to it.
