I love how in that video the announcers casually mention that Isiah broke his hand in a fight with Cartwright, lol.

BTW Youvalss, think you could hook me up with that link too?

      Re: What was it like?

The irony, is that today's players work out more and look more muscular, even though the game does not reward you for that. Actually, the game punishes for that because you can't really be physical if you want to survive the entire game without being fouled out.

Anyway, players that I loved watching playing in the early-mid 90's were Charles Oakley and, even more, Anthony Mason. Mason was a BEAST! I remember thinking "Wow, this guy is made of steel!"...

Please send me the think as well youvalss! IMO Stern has done a lot of good and bad since he has been in control. The hand checking rule killed defense. I guarantee you wouldn't see as many players yo-yoing the ball all shot clock if that rule was in place.

I was born in 85 so I was able to see both 3peats. I must say watching them as a youngster you don't really appreciate how hard the players played back then. while I will always love the nba as basketball was my first true love, the league is in great shape right now! Early 2000's was terrible due to too many young cats that weren't really good ball players yet.

funny, because today it's the opposite...

As for MJ, I started watching his games during the 1989-1990 season and by the next season I watched every game that was aired. Since I lived far far away, I had to wake up in the middle of the night to watch NBA games. And so I did...even if I had a major exam the same day, work, army, you name it! MJ was more important than all that...haha, good times!

Good thing I found some great online forum with TONS of old NBA games (70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's), so I can re-live it. I'm gonna create my own collection of old NBA games.
What are the links to those forums?

                  Re: What was it like?

Yeah, it seems that the physical play of that era has gone, looking at those clips. In my opinion, after watching old highlights, Stern should bring back the old rules and let the physical play of old come back. But he won't.

                  We need more !

I only go back to the early 80's but there was some quality teams and players. I remember when CBS had the national contract and Sundays was the game of the week. The Celtics, 76ers, Lakers, Rockets, Bucks, and the Pistons. This was before cable and before the over exposure of the NBA.

Those Bucks teams were a few clicks behind Celtics and 76ers and made for some great games. The Bucks had Marcus Johnson, Sidney Moncrief, and Bob Lanier. I think basketball was better because back in the day you only saw the great teams on national television.

I love those Piston teams. I watched those Pistons teams learn how to be champions by competing against those great Celtics teams.
