I agree that its pretty hard to find someone to take that contract but if the Wizards were willing to trade the #1 pick for the #3 pick and Harris then the Nets should jump at the chance to get Wall plus get rid of Harris' contract, thats what i meant.

But i agree that its going to be really hard to get rid of that contract and now it appears there is no reason to since they'll need him to be their PG.

And i also agree about Durant, my feelings are the same because it seems everything he's indicated is that he'll be back in OKC.

Not so crazy when you look at it that way.
I dunno.. 4 times? The team with the worst record still has better odds of getting the 1st pick than the next worst team and so on. 75% chance of not getting it, yeah, but the next team also has an 80% chance of not getting it. Not saying it's astronomically unheard of, but I would've guessed more than 4 times.

Yeah that's a good point. The Nets have a lot of tradable assets including two #1 picks this year, and the first pick in the 2nd round. I hope they package some of their assets to make a trade, instead of holding on to the crazy idea that LeBron will play in Newark.

DC is clearly the most important city in the world.

I don't even know where the argument would begin that it isn't.

I think he means most important because of the Government, Military, President and the power of the United States in that sense, but I agree NYC is the market capital of the USA.

Anyway, I don't want Gilbert Arenas anywhere near John Wall. He will ruin him and be a horrible mentor to Wall. He will teach Wall how NOT to play defense. Please trade Gilbert and keep him as far way from Wall as possible and preach DEFENSE!

                      Re: 2010 NBA Draft Thread.

still think i'm overexaggertaing the disappontment of Nets fans?

The Nets lost 70 times during a long, miserable season, more than any team in the NBA. On Tuesday night, 34 days after closing the season with a defeat in Miami, the star-crossed franchise lost for a 71st time.

The Nets entered the evening as the favorite to select first in the June 24 NBA Draft. But just as the basketball did so many times during the season, the ping pong balls that can decide the fate of a franchise for years to come bounced the wrong way, as the Nets slipped to the No. 3 pick.
The Washington Wizards grabbed the No. 1 overall selection, a dream with a 10 percent chance of coming true. The Philadelphia 76ers slid up to No. 2.

“I think anybody who is competitive, you want to get as high as you can get — you want to win,” Nets president Rod Thorn said. “Once you get through the top four, and you know you’re one of the top three, you want to win it. It wasn’t our night.”

Once the NBA deputy commissioner Adam Silver revealed the Nets would select third, those gathered at NBA Entertainment studios in Secaucus let out a collective gasp. The presence of new owner Mikhail Prokhorov on the dais couldn’t sway the fortunes of a team yearning for a lucky break.
For much of the proceedings, Prokhorov, sat coolly behind the podium bearing the Nets logo. Tuesday night marked his introduction to the NBA community, and in many ways he was the rookie fawned over most on the evening. His cheeky grin belied any nerves he may have had, and when the Wizards took the No. 1 spot, he graciously congratulated their majority owner, Irene Pollin.

The Nets, who had coveted former Kentucky point guard John Wall — like just about every one of the 14 other teams represented at the lottery — might now have to resort to Plan C.

Behind Wall, the Nets’ front office desires Evan Turner, a former Ohio State guard who could be selected at No. 2 by the 76ers, even though they drafted a similar ballhandling playmaker in Jrue Holiday last year.
The 19-year-old Holiday represented the 76ers at the lottery and finished the season on a high note, which means Philadelphia general manager Ed Stefanski could lure the Nets into a trade if they really want Turner.
“We think there are a bunch of real good players in this draft, and we feel very confident that we will get someone who will help us where we are,” Thorn said.

Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins, former forwards at Georgia Tech and Kentucky, respectively, are widely considered to be the Nos. 3 and 4 prospects in the draft. But, in workouts, that duo will have to demonstrate to the Nets that they can play harmoniously alongside incumbent center Brook Lopez in order to merit selection.

Wes Johnson, a forward from Syracuse who is considered to be one of the most NBA-ready players among the top prospects, also may be considered.

The NBA Draft lottery can be cruel. It can be cruelest, perhaps, to the league’s worst team, the one with the 25 percent chance of gaining the top pick in the draft.

In 26 years of the lottery, the team with the best chance of winning has done so merely four times.

Those unfavorable odds combined with the team’s deplorable luck fused to deal the Nets one final, agonizing blow, one not even Prokhorov could block.

Well, there goes Lebron James. If he really wanted to come to New York, why would he choose the Nets over the Knicks now? So disappointed. I was hoping tonight was the beginning of a great turnaround for the Nets. Same old back luck Nets.

This is an outrage to again have the worse team in the NBA not have the first pick in the draft. The NBA's system is a complete disaster.
The point of the draft is to give the bad teams the chance to bring in the better young players that will fuel these teams drive to the top.
This system really needs to be looked at and changed. Otherwise I cannot see going to an NBA Game as exciting as going to a Major Division College Basketball Game. The most attractive aspect of College Basketball is that big name schools can be beat by not so big name schools.

Stern & Ratner created so much bad karma with this team that it's only fitting that the Nets lose out on the #1 pick. Next act will be when they lose out on Lebron James.

HA! What a great day! They (Proko, Rat, Trenton pols who caused the sale to Rat years ago) got exactly what they deserve! The Brooklyn Nyets are cursed already. LOL!!

Anyone see the look on Proko's face? He looked like he wanted to vomit. I wouldn't be surprised if Ratner assured him he'd end up with the #1 pick.

Please somebody tell me one good draft pick he's had & u can't say Kristic cuz they guy plays in Oklahoma City?
Kidd was a great trade, Carter was a great trade.... aside from this, Rod sux.
Dare somebody to say that RJ & Collins were great picks.... if we had decent center, Kidd would have won championship. RJ played well with Kidd but has sucked since.

As a former Nets fan I was happy with the result. They deserve this and I look forward to two years from now when they take their pathetic act to Brooklyn.
Boycott the Brooklyn Nets in Newark, support our New Jersey Devils!
should i continue or do you get the point? People are either disappointed/upset about not getting the #1 pick or happy because they are mad at the franchise for leaving NJ.

Tanking in the NFL is also much more obvious. You can't just bench star players in the NFL at the rate you can in the NBA.

In the NBA a star player who has a sore shoulder can sit out the last 10 games and severely hamper his team's chance of winning those games. You'd have to bench a teams 3-5 best players in the NFL to do that and do it over the last 2-3 weeks.

Durant to DC makes more sense than any of the other free agent nonsense being talked about this year.

philly is in a tough spot at #2. im not sure if they will get turner or not.

they dont need a big with brand, dalembert, and with projects of young, speights and smith.

if they get turner what will they do? he doesnt have a position yet though you can play him 1-3. holiday is still a combo guard despite being competent at point. iggy's jumpshot is still shaky so you cant pencil him at the 2.

do you guys think philly can roll with an interchangeable backcourt?

                          they can go for instance...

PG - holiday/turner/iggy (in case of injury break glass)
                          SG - turner/iggy/holiday
                          SF - iggy/turner

the sixers were one of the best teams in the fastbreak this season and i can see them pulling it off with turner on that note. downside is you cant respect their shots yet, which makes it difficult in the halfcourt. they dont have a coach yet so i dunno what direction or style of play theyre trying to achieve yet. which makes it hard to pin on who they should get or whether turner is a good fit.

I didnt come here to piss off nets fans but when someones gonna get on my *** i'm responding. All i did was talk about the mood around NJ throughout the year and how they were banking on getting the #1 pick. When they would talk about the Nets on the radio they wouldnt talk about the actual games, they would just talk about how they were counting on getting the #1 pick (Wall) and then hopefully they can get Lebron. I dont understand whats so bad about me talking about that?

There are 4 things Nets fans have been talking about this year
                            1. The arena... will it ever get done? New lawsuit is once again holding it up.
                            2. the draft... Nets fans were banking on having the #1 pick and getting Wall.
                            3. Lebron... there is hope that he will come to NJ
                            4. The next coach... all of the coaching rumors have been a topic of discussion

Evan Roberts was fun to listen because he's a Mets & Jets fan as well and he was saying that with the luck his teams have, the Nets won't get the #1 pick and he was right.

I wanted the Nets to get the #1 pick, i want NJ & NY to be good once again which is why i want one of them to get Lebron. So quit getting on me for talking about how disappointed Nets fans must be. Flip on wfan tomorrow morning at 10am and you'll hear Evan express what a lot of Nets fans are thinking.
                            1. What new lawsuit? Because from everything I've read/heard, the last delay in this whole process was Daniel Goldstein and his refusal to leave the property(which he now has for the price of $3 Mil)and also Prokhorov is basically paying for this whole project all while eating up the debt that The Ray basically put us in since we were losing money EVERY year he's owned the team.

                            2. Isn't that what every team with the worst record does? Bank on getting the #1 pick? Go on any Nets Forum(NetsDaily, NAS)and of course you're gonna have those few people think that(what type of Sports Message Board DOESN'T have those types? LOL)but believe it or not there are still people who were still happy(not ecstatic obviously)and that one reason is Prokhorov. You(since you have all the inside info on what goes on down there)should know that's the obvious thing that were excited about after seeing what we've gone thru with The Rat.

                            3. There's also hope he goes to NY, Chicago, LA or even stay in Cleveland(which is what I've thought all along that's what he'll do)but the only reason that rumor was still alive(other than the top pick stuff)was the Jay-Z factor. But if Jay didn't own a thing on this team, then that mess never would've started up back in 05-06.

                            4. As they should be seeing how we went from the 12 Year Old who couldn't teach players Defense if you wrote it on the Chalkboard for him and another guy who wasn't even qualified(and shouldn't have coached period but did because Cheap *** Rat didn't want to bring in someone from outside since he would have to pay unfortunately and that was the last thing he would do god forbid)

Oh and I do listen to Evan Roberts(thank god for the Internet lol)seeing as how he's basically the only dude up there to stick up for the Nets and use actual facts where as Francesa is basically talking out of his *** and goes along with the Callers' thoughts actually believing that Lebron to the Knicks is a sure lock and that it's only a matter of time. He had one caller on there actually try to convince him that the Knicks' current roster was better than the Nets' current roster and even said David Lee was a better Defender than Brook Lopez and the sad part is that he almost believed that caller. SMGDH.

Durant to DC makes more sense than any of the other free agent nonsense being talked about this year.
You do know that Carmelo Anthony is a local boy also? He will be a free agent the same year as Durant (Summer 2011). I wouldn't mind either of those guys playing with John Wall...

[quote=Anyway, I don't want Gilbert Arenas anywhere near John Wall. He will ruin him and be a horrible mentor to Wall. He will teach Wall how NOT to play defense. Please trade Gilbert and keep him as far way from Wall as possible and preach DEFENSE![/quote]

Man, I want Gilbert there..I believe Sam I am will get both these guys to play right. Plus, who's going to want to take on that contract of Gils. I want Gilbert here, him and Wall could cause problems on the other end, and if we have to slow it down, either one of them can take somebody off the dribble, or just give it to Blatche downlow..I''m Ready.
