    Re: The LeBron James Thread

I never questioned his decline or ability this year, just his effort and leadership. I think he's still the best player on the planet--the thread dethroning him made me chuckle--but he was a terrible leader who spent too much time sulking.

It does not come as a surprise that a team full of young players would routinely botch a relatively complicated defensive scheme but that's part of why so many people questioned his decision to sign with the Lakers given where the roster stood. He expected to have his cake and eat it too and threw a tantrum when it didn't work.

OJ, do you have a link to his Top 40 list?

I think questioning his decline is fair, as he has been slowing down over the past 2-3 seasons now. A lot of his play in general seems to be almost situational picked rather than playing with a high motor at all times. But I think that just comes with age. I thought during the playoffs he has still stepped everything up a notch where nobody but maybe KD can really reach anything close to that level, but he's not in the playoffs this year to really determined if that has declined or not.. I think like you said though, the decline is more inconsistency effort wise, and the young personnel around him, the injuries, line-up changes, and the team trying to get that chemistry on the fly only made that worse.

I don't agree with everything on his list, but the individual breakdowns for each player are definitely worth the read when you get a chance.

This is also a list is also based on their careers, so it's not really just ranking guys at their peak which makes a few questionable names pop up but they make sense since the criteria is "40 best careers" not necessarily "40 best players".

Like I said, even ignoring the list itself altogether, just reading each players scouting report makes you really appreciate the amount of time that was put into this. A lot of it is heavy in advanced stats and analytics, but unlike most he has scouted videos that go with them and IMO does a solid job of bringing the whole "eye-test" argument and stat argument into one whole piece.

I may be off on this, but I fully expect LBJ to absolutely dominate the league next year based on the following:

        a) I think he'll be embarrassed by this past season and the things that have been said about him. He'll come back motivated to show he's not done.

        b) He just played the least amount of basketball he's played since he joined the NBA between the injuries and not making the playoffs. I expect him to be extremely fresh next season and as explosive as we've seen him in a while.

Age is going to catch up for good at some point, but I think he's got one more unreal season left in him.

            UGH, that video!

Anywho, I see LeBron is back in the coaching ranks with Lue just about to be named "coach" of the Lakers.

Why are the years all screwy in that search?

                  LeBron starts in 2009.
                  Kobe 2001-2010?
Westbrook is only 2016 to 2017?
                  Only three years for Bird?

I would guess the number it starts with would be the first year that a player had one of the games that met that criteria. Meaning that if Bron had one of those in 2007 his would start at 2007.. Not sure though. I'm assuming they ran a search for the stat criteria for all years, and since it's multiple years it lists the first and last occurrence.

                      Re: The LeBron James Thread

Confirmed, just ran a total games search for playoff games of at least 35,8,8 and that's the results. If you click the count it listed off every game individually, so the first year is just the first year a player had a game of at least 35,8,8 and the least year would be the last year they had one.

I ran mine for any season, not just the since 84 or whatever was in that graphic. Oscar is at 4, Baylor and West also have 3. So still just 9 players to hit 3+, but that graphic left a couple guys off.
