Re: Who Will Be The Best POINT GUARD In The Next 5-10 Years?
No objections to your comments on Paul's shot being...below average (for what you would want out of one of your main scoring options).
And I will agree with most of your points about Nash & D-Will being tougher to defend in the high screen game. But, you said that you agree that the lack of offensive diversity and strategy falls mostly on the coaching. I don't think we can truly say what Chris Paul is and what he isn't until we've seen him in a new system that requires him to be more of a decision maker and to step up more.
I still say that he is a better half court point guard that you are giving him credit for, but I it really is hard for either of us to judge his true talent until he's put in a system (with a coach) that requires him to showcase ALL of his abilities as a point guard and as a leader of an offense.

People look at statistics and drool over Rondo...that's the same people drooling over Zach Randolph or Amare Stoudamire. Vastly overrated players that put up numbers for fantasy value, but they're not nearly as good as their numbers suggest.Comment

Rondo is horrible, man. Anytime you don't have to guard a guy, especially a guard, I'm sorry he's not elite. Like I said, if Dwill was on Boston, the Lakers would be DONE. And I'm a Lakers fan. The Lakers WANT Rondo scoring a lot of points and grabbing 10 boards. That means they were able to contain PP and Ray Ray and let Rondo get the garbage points. Rondo getting 10 boards also means the other Celtics players aren't rebounding much. Advantage Lakers under both those circumstances.

I don't think you can say Rondo is "horrible". Sure, he can't shoot. But, he is great at setting players up when he penetrates, he is a TERRIFIC defender (on & off ball), and he is a really good rebounder. He never goes all the way in to the boards with the big guys. He just has a knack for being in the right place when the ball comes off the rim. He reads shots well (much like Jason Kidd). Is he the best point guard in the league? no. but is he an elite level point guard today? yes.
He has played in 2 finals, and pretty much led the Celtics this year to the finals.

Hard to call it a "gamble" when he has so much success at it. Maybe, just maybe, he is good at reading and understanding what is about to happen which allows his "gamble" to be successful quite often.#WeAreUKComment

I said Rondo's rebounding ability reminds me of Jason Kidd's. They both have a knack for knowing where the ball is going to come off the rim, and positioning themselves in the right place to come up with it. Not sure what made you say "Jason Kidd is old". I was comparing Rondo to him.

If Rondo improves his shooting, then it's no contest. Until then, the title of best point guard belongs to Deron Williams.Comment

Rondo doesn't do a good job staying in front of his player, he tends to get beat and reaches in. Yes, he generates steals that way, but no, that does not make him a good "on-ball" defender.[NYK|DAL|VT]

It's why Battier and Artest are considered elite defenders, but don't rack up steals and blocks. They simply shut you down and can keep you in front of them.
Rondo gets beat a lot and is good at reaching in from behind, and plays the passing lanes by taking chances...but that doesn't make him a good defender. The steals look good in the box scores, but they don't show how many times he was unsuccessful and let his man score.
Seriously, I don't want to sound like a *****, but Rondo is a fantasy dream that looks good in the boxscore, but the guy is not that good on either end of the court. Guys talk about him like he's an all-star. I can name 12 better point guards, lol.Last edited by ParisB; 07-02-2010, 09:22 PM.Comment

Chris Paul if he can remain healthy will still be top on the PG list in my book, when healthy he is a consistent 20ppg 10ppg 2spg point guard, D. Williams will be a close second.Comment
