I think the real lesson to be learned here is for any franchise to just trade a player off while they can if he isnt signing new contracts his last 2 years. I mean honestly, if your giving him good contracts to resign, and he just keeps waiting it out, trade him for some key players to a team that betters your organization. Just as these guys are trying to show there right to free angencey, Id show them right back you have the right to get rid of them for a better future for your team. If theres not gonna be anyloyalty, then hit these guys hard. Not just at the end of there carears, when they are over paid, but the moment you see theres no commitment. To me, that would change pro basketball for the better. Your better off to be safe, then sorry.

Thats all hindsight though as the owner would then get ripped for not giving it more time and trying to work something out. IMO, at the end of the day it comes down to whose going to look like the bad guy? The player when he bolts or the owner when he trades a superstar for scraps because hes fearful the star will bolt at the end of the contract. Isnt this basically whats going on in Denver between Carmelo and ownership? I thought I heard that Denver was more then willing to trade Carmelo if he wasnt going to give them some assurances that he wanted to resign with them, although someones word isnt exactly what it used to be anyways and you only need look Carlos Boozer's way for an example of that.

That's where I think it's a "we'll see". Basically the Cavs had little chance of being all that good without getting lucky in a draft. They drafted Lebron... still had some trouble with free agents. Now without Lebron, they're back to square one. Their success really relies on getting lucky. Whether this happened or not, there was no big time free agent that was going to take Gilbert's max contract over pretty much anybody else's.

That's where LeBron leaving is so horrible for Cleveland. If their own won't stay, who will? I've said for the last few years that if LeBron leaves, they might as well move the team to St. Louis or Seattle.

I think the NHL should put a hockey team in Seattle (a fantastic untapped hockey market - the Pacific Northwest in general) and call it the Supersonics. Then watch it explode in popularity, be embraced by the fans, and totally stick it to the NBA.

I dont think it is. Theres really no reason a player wouldnt sign a good contract unless he wasnt happy, or was looking elsewhere. Personally, I think its better to walk away with some players, then to put all your eggs in one basket. If you a big city, and year to year contenders, you might could wait it out, but these smaller citys, are gonna get the short end of the stick 95%+ of the time.

Real talk...

At the end of the day when it's all said an done this is what you have:

1. A Cleveland franchise that could not put winning pieces in place around Lebron.

2. A Cleveland franchise that could not get coach that would know how to design offenses with Lebron and the players they had on those rosters.

3. A talented young Lebron James that wants to win championships. Wether it be more because he personally wants that above all else or its the pressure from the public and media that have given the notion that championships = greatness, and nothing else matters.

4. Lebron decided he cant win championships in Cleveland.

5. Lebron left for the Heat, which is probably going to give him the best chance at multiple Championships as he starts to enter the the "important" years of his career.

6. Due to Lebron's youth and stupidity/poor judgment that usually comes with youth, rather than surround himself with real professionals to guide his career, he chose to star in the NBA version of Entourage. This decision I'm sure had a hand in what become the Lebronathon Free Agent tour. What doe's "Ray Ray' and Junebug" that lived around the corner from you know about running an NBA career?

7. Cleveland fans are pissed off and hate Lebron now.

8. Bulls fans are pissed off and hate Lebron now.

9. Knicks fans are pissed off and hate Lebron now.

10. Cleveland's owner HAD to write the letter that he did. It was smart. You play on the emotions of your fans when they are dazed, confused and disoriented. You take the key opportunity to paint Lebron as a traitor and a villian thus shifting all the blame on him while you divert the fan's eyes from the fact that you have failed as an owner for the past 7 years. You had the greatest draft pick ever and failed to give him any LEGIT reason to stay for 7 more years.

11. At the end of the day, Cleveland fans... get over it. He's gone... and lets be honest here, you burn his jersey and tear down his posters and persecute him and you say it's because HOW he left Cleveland when the REAL TALK here is that the only way Lebron could have prevented how you all are acting was to STAY in Cleveland. He could have made the classiest departure ever by an exiting free agent and you know deep down inside you STILL would have acted the way you are acting now becaue at the end of the day, its not how he left that upsets you... it's the fact that he left period. If he had done all these things during free agency that you criticize him on and persecute him on BUT at the end of it all he announced he was staying in Cleveland, all the theatrics leading up to that decision would have been forgiven.

Makes you wonder why a Chris Bosh didnt want to play in Cleveland even if Lebron was going to stay there.

Real talk. Acting as if a city shares one hive mind is abstract stupidity. You have no idea whatsoever what Cleveland "thinks, lol. Do you think we've never been disapointed before?

LeBron mentally divorced himself from the Cavs 2 years ago, demanded that they make short-term moves, tied them up in Free agency without the courtesy of a phonecall just so he could diss his hometown in public, and even though he had a cast good enough to compete for a chip he freaking quit in the playoffs. Talk about all the lack of help you want...the one game he brought his A game the Cavs slapped the Celtics by thirty points.
