Not as much as you think. The one they would be giving up is not their pick. It is a pick that got from another team. Plus any pick they trade will be probably top 5 protected but for sure top 3 protected so you are looking at a mid lottery pick at best.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
I would do it if I'm the Lakers. Not sure about the short term, probably depends who they are playing in the playoffs. But in the long term if you can get Melo for just Bynum you have to do it.
I don't think Bynum is that great a fit for Denver, but the risk isn't that high since he's only got one more year, so it's better than letting Melo go for nothing, and its better than the Knicks/Nuggets/T'wolves deal which is basically nothing. I think if the Knicks give them Gallo and Fields and either Randolph or a pick that would be better for the Nuggets, and I think that's their main goal here, but I don't see the Knicks giving in.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

If I'm the Lakers, I make that deal in a heartbeat.
If I'm the Nuggets, I'd consider other offers. I wouldn't close the door BUT I'd definitely look at other options.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Nobody knows what might happen in 2012 so you can't just say hey let's sit still and hope we can sign Dwight in 2012. With Kobe,Gasol, and Odom all on the books until after the 2013 season and making over 60 million combined that year it will be impossible to just sign Dwight as a free agent. That doesn't even include that they would have to just let Andrew walk before free agency would even begin. With the new CBA and pretty much the guarantee of a lower cap there is no way they will be able to just sign Dwight even if he becomes a free agent.
They'd be able to sign Dwight in 2012 because they have team options on Odom and Bynum. So they could still have Kobe/Artest/Pau/Howard in their starting lineup. Yikes.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
But Kobe would be making $27 million and Gasol $19 million, so I don't know how they would fit Dwight in there. Plus we don't know what the cba will be like. And the Lakers are trying to win a championship these next couple years, so I don't know if they can worry about not adding more salary for 2012.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Unless the lakers are willing to eat more salary it ain't happening. Denver is looking for financial relief also. If that deal goes down Denver saves about 3 million this year and that's it.
That ain't no real savings

I read somewhere that if they trade with the Lakers, Nene would be going to LA too as cap relief. Not sure how it would work, but I read that somewhere.NFL: Bills

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Anyways, this ain't happening but if it does. I want our GM fired, I rather keep Melo and lose him end of yr than trade him now and get BynumLast edited by Kobalt; 02-08-2011, 06:44 PM.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
If the 'Melo to Lakers were to actually happen, it'd be bigger than the 'Big3' in Miami, in my opinion.
Imagine Carmelo & Kobe together, with Odom an Pau in the paint
they'd be set up to repeat without a doubt
and if it happened, and the Heat & Lakers made the finals, it'd be one hell of an NBA Finals
I hope it happens
Its far more interesting than 'melo to the KnicksGO HEAT

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
Man at first I was against all the best players joining up on the same teams but now I want to see those teams play each other. Imagine
Lakers: Kobe, Carmelo, Pau
Miami: Wade, LeBron, Bosh
Knicks: Amare, Paul, Dwight (its possible in a few yrs)
With the role players involved it would just be interesting to see who would win. So far it looks like Bynum for Carmelo is the best offer Denver is seeing. They can't hold onto Carmelo an let him walk in the offseason. They need to at least get something back. I feel the Knicks aren't really breaking their backs to get Melo because they most likely can easily sign him in the offseason an keep all their young players, but what if LA does acquire Melo. Will he resign with them or would he still leave for New york?Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread
'Melo probably already knows this, but his best option is to stay in Denver until after the season, then be free to go where he wants like LeBron did
