You have a chance at a top 5-10 player, you take it. In the end, NY will look stupid as hell if Melo goes elsewhere.
Why even take Billups? With Amare, that's almost $50m of cap space on just three players. And Billups at this point isn't worth that trouble.

The closer we come to June 30th, the less Denver will probably end up with. There are already reports that Denver's front office right now is a circus show. Like everyone else, I just hope this ends because I'm tired of hearing around here how the Bulls should ship Joakim to Denver.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread

Denver is demanding Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Landry Fields, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov and a first-round pick (obtained by trading Anthony Randolph) in exchange for Anthony and Chauncey Billups.
Be happy with 2 of those, the pick (+ maybe a 2nd) and the expiring Curry. Lucky they'd get that at this point.

They're just shooting high. If anything Denver is screwed either way, have been from the get go. When Melo only wanted to go to NY to begin with, that puts no power in Denver's court. Melo only wants an extension from NY, no other team.

Also, Billups can be waived in the Summer.

That means nothing, you and I and everybody here knows that the Knicks are not going to trade all that for anybody.

But what Denver is doing is throwing a high mark to see how the Knicks react and perhaps get something a big lower and not something as dumb as the Knicks offered 3 weeks ago of Chandler, Curry, and first rounder for AR

In the end I beleive that it will be Felton, Fields, Curry, first rounder from AR trade and Chandler

You do that trade right now

I prefer to keep Fields because he is a Guard and Gallo plays same as Melo but Knicks treat Gallo as if he was a star

You're right, forgot the team option.

It will also be interesting if the Nets do a buyout of Murphy and Pistions buy out Hamilton. Although I'm hoping the Bulls jump on Rip as soon as that happens.

From what I hear RIP is one of the dudes the Knicks want to snatch if Melo deals goes through once he is bough out

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread

One of the reasons I'm willing to be very patient is with how badly Melo wants to be a Knick, you'd have to imagine there has been some communication between Melo and the Knicks through back channels. If Melo ends up deciding he wants his money now and would rather go to the Nets than wait until the offseason, I think the Knicks will know that, and will know they have to offer up a lot. I really don't see the Knicks getting caught off guard, unless a team that's willing to take him for a rental jumps in and makes a quick trade, and he ends up liking it there. And I don't see a team blowing the Nuggets away with an offer for a rental.

And I don't see Felton as a placeholder at all, I don't think the Knicks see him that way, and they shouldn't. If we get Melo, the next step, and last major step assuming we don't gut the whole team for Melo, is a defensive center. Not upgrading a position that is already a strength. On a team with Melo and Amare, Felton is more than capable at pg.

Lets continue with some more Nets stuff.

                        Latest Carmelo Anthony trade buzz

Although details of a formally scheduled meeting have yet to emerge, Denver officials are operating under the assumption that Melo and Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov will finally meet face-to-face during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, according to sources close to the process. The Nuggets encourage that meeting, sources say, because trading with New Jersey has always been more favorable to Denver than dealing with New York and because the Nuggets -- who still like New Jersey’s Derrick Favors better than any player who’s been made available to them in the months-long Melo trade saga -- know that the Nets remain unwilling to participate in a trade unless Anthony also commits to an extension in New Jersey.

I agree with Stein, looks like the Nuggets are really trying to re-engage trade talks with NJ to create some competition. Stein also added that it was the Nuggets who contacted New Jersey to try and restart the talks.

Source: 'The Nets Are Out' Of Carmelo Talks

                          Feb 17, 2011 08:50 AM EST

Reports have surfaced that the Nuggets and Nets are talking again about a trade to send Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey.

But a source with knowledge of the situation tells Alan Hahn of Newsday that the Nets reemergence is not genuine.

"The Nets are out," the source said.

Hahn writes that the Knicks are not confident that Denver actually knows what it wants from a deal for Anthony and offers his opinion that it is "amateur hour" in the Nuggets' front office.
The latest request from Denver is just stupid, I don't know why they'd even bother with that. Why didn't they just ask for Madison Square Garden in the deal?

Re: the Felton/Billups aspect of the trade, a couple of WFAN hosts today made a great point that Walsh doesn't want to get rid of Felton because he does not view him as a placeholder and does not think it's anywhere near a lock that CP3 or Deron will wind up here. There's a very legit chance Felton will be getting a second contract in NY.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony (NY or Bust?) Thread

The general consensus around the league is that the Nuggets are making one last call to potential suitors before ultimately entering serious talks with the New York Knicks over the All-Star break.

Even with the Nets answering the phone, the Knicks are still the team to watch as the deadline approaches.

Talks between Denver and New York have progressed, and one source said that a deal between the two sides is "65 percent complete" with the specifics to be worked out when the two parties meet face to face over the All-Star break. A similar meeting has not been scheduled with the Nets, nor has a meeting between the team's officials and Anthony been discussed as of yet.

Both Denver and New York are hesitant to meet the other's needs, but all of the involved parties have started making plans that suggest a trade is inevitable. The Knicks have reached out to several free agents with the assumption that they'll have open roster spots to fill after the deadline, including one player that is very close with Anthony.

New York doesn't want to gut their roster for Anthony and Denver doesn't want to let the Knicks make out like a bandit in any deal. But at the end of the day, league sources continue to believe that one side will budge.

In recent years, All-Star Weekend has been a hotbed for trade rumors involving star players and that will likely continue this year. While teams generally don't finalize trades during the break, deals are often consummated and become official shortly after.

With trade talks expected to advance and face to face meetings already scheduled, it's very possible that Anthony has played his last game as a member of the Denver Nuggets.
