Lets stop dreaming for a second, no matter where he goes NEITHER of these teams is competing for any championships as constructed. Maybe a division championship in a year or two but these 2 teams are willing to gut their rosters just to get Carmelo. Carmelo is serious about being a Knick but doesn't want to leave money on the table. Well sometimes in life you don't get everything you want. The obvious thing here is that Carmelo could care less about winning a championship. If he did, why would he push the Knicks to make a deal now? They would have to gut their entire roster including if reports are correct, 3 of their 5 starters! So then you'd have the Knicks consisting of Carmelo, Amare and guys like Mason and Turiaf. But why would he care since he got his money and he's in NY. That's all he wants. Then in 2 years, you'll have 2 unhappy allstars with no talent around them.
How are the Knicks going to sign Paul in 2012 or any big star if they already have 2 max contracts on the board? The Nets could sign Paul because resigning Lopez that off season would count against the hard cap. In fact if they don't resign Lopez, they can probably sign 2 max free agents in 2012 I believe. Or 1 max and another close enough. Draft picks? The Nets are only giving up 1 of their picks (just this years), the rest are from other teams and their sole purpose in getting those picks was for this reason. And they all have lottery restrictions, so it's not like they would have been that high of picks anyway. Plus when they are bad next year, they'll still have their 1st rounder.
