Melo wasn't playing like an All-Star throughout that ordeal. There were a lot of games where everyone was saying how he had already checked out cause the effort just wasn't there on his part. Just cause dude can walk into a 20+ point night doesn't mean he was out there scrapping to the best of his ability. This is the same thing as the LeBron fiasco in the playoffs. Dudes need to learn how to stop reading boxscores to determine effort. Also as pointed out already, continuing to openly talk about playing elsewhere during the thing was foul on his part and playing the victim about something he pretty much brought on himself didn't help and definitely "tipping his cap to himself" was a bad move. But whatever, what's done is done.

But unless you watched the games, you're falling for the same tricks.

Stats don't lie. He put up his numbers and his team was playing good basketball. Articles, on the other hand, can lie. Anyone can print whatever they want. If someone believes he checked out, they can say that and no one will hold them accountable for it because it's good media coverage.

Now, I'm not saying he didn't check out or that he played the best basketball of his career. All I'm saying is both sides of the argument can't really know unless they are him and they watched every game.

I've got League Pass broadband, so, yep, I've watched the games and dude just wasn't into it in quite a few of the games this season. Not to mention he pretty much wanted no part of defense in Denver and now all of a sudden in New York he can pull some legit concern for defense out of his ***?

See what? That doesn't contribute anything to the discussion. If you have a problem with something I say then address it like a sensible person and explain exactly what it is you don't agree with.

It's not like I'm some LeBron fan trying to lessen what he did by playing up Melo as worse or just as bad as him. However Melo is not innocent in this whole thing.

Sign with the Nets and give them false hope. Decimate the team. Leave them for the Knicks, but not before a two hour special highlighting Carmelo's career.

Shut his mouth plain and simple. He didn't sign the extension so there was going to be running speculation about him not wanting to be there, sure. However when they stick a mic in his face he doesn't have to talk about himself playing elsewhere like it's nothing. Denver management may be looking in shambles or having no plan for the future in his eyes (as his reasoning for not staying originally) but nothing was wrong with the Denver fans who'd been supporting him his entire NBA career. For every goof that dissed Melo for not getting out of the first round, or not playing defense or coming up with every argument to not put him in the top five players in the league, the Denver Nugget fans still spend they're hard earned money supporting him and they deserve better than having to hear him longing for the bright lights of MSG and New York in the middle of they're sixth seed season two years removed from a WCF appearance. He can talk to Denver about what he wants without saying anything about it in the media and tipping his cap to himself.

Im starting to think NBA fans just like to complain about some stuff just to complain

Who cares man, he wanted to leave now hes gone free agency or not Denver was well compensated and now they can move on as well

I have no problem with Anthony's role in this situation, not bc it's right necessarily, but bc it made good business sense. It made sure he got to the place he wanted to be while making the money he wanted in the process. He forced the hands of both the Nuggets and the Knicks by talking publicly. At the end of the day, the only way he wouldn't hve been criticized in some form is if he stayed in Denver so at least his approach helped his cause and the cause of the Nuggets (and in a small way, the Nets who could've ended up with him for the rest of the year to watch him walk if they weren't positive he wanted to end up on the Knicks).

The James situation is completely different, but I still bring it up because I disagree with the idea that he shut his mouth. The tour where he was going to come out with a new shoe for every spot he visited was him shutting his mouth? He turned what was going to be a painful situation into a side show long before the decision. Even if the thought is that Melo should've just talked to the Nuggets about his wishes and kept it out of the media, I'm not sure how that can be used to praise James who's former team didn't even know what his plans were until the rest of the world did. All of his actions were geared towards supporting his enormous ego rather than better positioning himself in the way I believe Carmelo's were.

In the same sense, that wouldn't have gone well unless James stayed in Cleveland. Considering that, even if you think Melo should've said less, James should've been talking to SOMEBODY more than he did. Honestly, if James had identified the Heat early and the Cavs had time to prepare for everything, the Heat may have ended up with better pieces around the "big 3" coming into this season, while the Cavs fans may have been more gracious in his exit.

Perfectly agree. Especially when looking at it, the Nuggets came out very well.
