I don't think a deal with the Nets will be worked out and I don't see the Knicks doing it during this season. So what do people think the impact of Caron Butler injury will have on Melo? I think Dallas is going to make a huge push for him probably involving a 3rd team like the Sixers with Iggy going to Denver.

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
The Nets are trying to involve the Pistons in a three-team deal that would bring Carmelo Anthony to New Jersey, league sources said.
In the complicated scenario that’s being discussed, the Nets would send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and at least two first-round picks to Denver and Troy Murphy’s expiring contract to the Pistons. In return, the Nets would get Anthony and Chauncey Billups from the Nuggets and likely Richard Hamilton from the Pistons, who are looking to shed salary. Hamilton has two years and $25 million remaining on his contract.
There are many more players involved to make the salaries match, but this is one of multiple things the Nets are discussing in an effort to land Anthony. They also are trying to trade with Denver straight up for the All-Star small forward.
The Nuggets have a standing offer of Favors, Murphy and at least two first-round picks. But if something like that happens it may not be until around the Feb. 24 trade deadline. The Nuggets don’t want to pay Murphy’s salary right now but may be more willing when less is owed to him.Comment

Ridiculously huge report
Kerber: Up to 17 Players Could Be Dealt in Three-Team 'Melo Trade
Fred Kerber reports that when all is said and done, as many as 17 players from the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons could be moved. If it happens, the trade would be the biggest by far in NBA history, supplanting a 13-player, five-team deal engineered by Pat Riley in the 2003 off-season.
"The Nets, under the whopper trade which is nowhere near close to be completed, would essentially gut their current roster. At 10-26, that might not be a bad thing," writes Kerber. Earlier Saturday, Al Iannazzone tweeted that "between 12-14 players [could be] changing teams".
Among those who could be added to the deal are Johan Petro and the team's three minimum salary players: Stephen Graham, Quinton Ross and Ben Uzoh.
Among the others who could traded from the Nuggets and Pistons are several whose names have already surfaced: Shelden Williams and Renaldo Balkman from Denver and Terrico White from Detroit, which Kerber reported earlier Saturday. Of course the main pieces remain Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy, Derrick Favors and "perhaps Anthony Morrow," Kerber writes.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Like I posted in another thread, this 3-team blockbuster deal is straight garbage unless Nene is the center being moved to Detroit instead of Johan Petro.
And eff the "aim to shed salary" reasoning aimed to justify making the deal from the Pistons perspective. Some salary will be shedded from the team once Tayshaun Prince is off the books, whether it's through a separate trade involving him that's made by the deadline or by keeping him on through to the end of the season.

Details
Al Iannazzone and Fred Kerber have details on who would be moved in the massive three way deal being discussed by the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons.
The Nets would send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow, Stephen Graham, Ben Uzoh and at least two first-round picks to Denver.
Troy Murphy, Johan Petro and Quinton Ross would go to Detroit. Beyond Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton, the Nets also would receive the expiring contracts of big man Shelden Williams from Denver and guard Terrico White from Detroit. That's eight Nets, leaving only Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries,Travis Outlaw, Damion James, Jordan Farmar and Sasha Vujacic from the current roster. Other players would be moved off the Nugget and Pistons rosters, bringing the total to as high as 17.
Negotiations are continuing, both report. A source told Iannazzone there have been some counteroffers made in the possible three-team trade with Denver and Detroit. It’s believed the Nuggets are seeking more draft picks.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Another possible setback is that Billups has declared that he would ask an inmediate buyout from NJ if he is traded there. This is because he wants to have the flexibility to dictate his own fate.
Then again, by being under contract he has to honor it and play for whoever becomes his employer. So, by implying a buyout, a retire isnt an option to him.
If I were NJ I would go ahead with it, specially if they dont have to surrender more than 3 picks ... even when I, in principle, dislike such drastic type of trades.Comment

Re: The Carmelo Anthony Saga
Billups has long said he hopes to retire with the Nuggets and eventually join their front office.
“His position is steadfast,” said Andy Miller, Billups’ agent. “I talked to him after practice [Saturday] and he expressed those thoughts. He doesn’t want to go anywhere. Even if it were a rebuilding situation, he’d prefer to be in Denver.”
Miller said “two or three” other teams also have expressed interest in Billups, but the former NBA Finals MVP wants to stay in his hometown. Billups was a high school star in Denver before playing at the University of Colorado. Billups’ wife, Piper, is his former high school sweetheart, his three daughters are attending school in Denver and his parents, brother and most childhood friends still live in the city. Billups is also active in the community, funding college scholarships for local students and running a basketball academy.
“This is where all my family is,” Billups told Yahoo! Sports in late November. “Mom, Pops, grandparents, everybody. This is genuinely home for me. I am in the downside, as far as my career is concerned. I know when my career is over I want to live in Denver. Why not have my kids in schools that they are going to be in and graduate from? That has a lot to do with me really wanting to be at home.
“But I’ve seen stranger things. I thought my career would end in Detroit.”
Billups is a valuable trade asset for the Nuggets because he’s a quality veteran point guard and his contract is attractive. Only $3.7 million of the $14.2 million he’s due to make in the final year of his contract next season is guaranteed. A team that acquires him at the trade deadline could buy him out for $3.7 million after the season and make him a free agent.
Miller said Billups isn’t interested in retiring yet, but he doesn’t expect his client to be happy playing for another team this season.
“Once Chauncey is gone from Denver, you’re disconnecting from fans, sponsors and the community,” Miller said.#RespectTheCultureComment
