I can't help it. Griffin is the most meaningful in-the-air player since Shawn Kemp. Throw in his competitive streak and he did the impossible -- he made Baron Davis care about basketball again. As my friend Tollin said last week, "It's amazing; it's like Baron has a purpose again." He's Blake's dunk muse. Now the Clips have the foundation of something special: Griffin, Davis, Eric Gordon (a future All-Star) and enough left to make a legitimate offer for Denver: lottery pick Al-Farouq Aminu, Chris Kaman, expiring contracts and the rights to Minnesota's unprotected 2012 pick (nearly as valuable a trade chip as Favors) for Carmelo and Al Harrington's horrendous contract that's the Carmelo Trade Tax. Mrs. Anthony could live in Hollywood and make her next unwatchable reality show. And her husband could play with Griffin, Gordon, Davis, Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan … a situation that's between five and 20 times more appealing than New Jersey. Even when you include Donald Sterling.

No need in trading for someone they're gonna get anyway(and it's obvious Donnie knows this)so what's the point?

There is one possible advantage to trading for him though. If the Knicks wait until the offseason to sign Melo, Chandler is gone. If the Knicks trade for Melo, and don't include Chandler, then they can go over the cap to resign Chandler. So, theoretically, it could come down to whether the Knicks prefer Chandler, or prefer Fields +Gallo+Randolph, or whatever they have to trade. So the Knicks shouldn't and won't break up the team to get Melo, but if it gets close to the deadline and the Nuggets are just trying to get something for him, it might make sense to trade for him.

They should do whatever to get Melo.

U cant trust the off-season. Afer the playoffs u dont know what the playing field will look like.

If Amare gets injured, or something freaky happens u dont take that risk.

Getting Melo now puts them in the mix and gives NY an attractive look to lower level free agents to jump aboard.

Walsh is no dummy.

It's still a risk because we have no idea if that exception will still be in the next CBA.

Agreed. There is plenty to gain, nothing to loose. As Carmelo extention would be seen as if he were a signed FA within this past off season.

If the Knicks would rather have Chandler and Melo, then they need to trade to get rid of Gallo and Fields and start talks with Chandler.

Turiaf has a player option for next year and that impacts us.

I think this would be a perfect time for the Bulls to sneak back in. First rounder-Luol Deng-Taj Gibson for Melo.

And to all my fellow Bulls fans who I debated with, YES I would still trade Noah for Melo. However, given the circumstances of him being injured and him signing a contract at the beginning of the season, I don't think it's even possible to trade him.
