You can't just look at % and say, "Oh so and so must be better"

There are many factors to consider. One of the reasons I like Kobe in that range is his ability to draw the foul.
Stats will not tell you most of the story. Way too many variables.

Brandon Roy and i'm done. Kobe has even said B.Roy is the hardest man to guard.

Add to the logic of your debate.

Slimm already had it. My bad.

Artest said the same if I recall( when he was in Houston).

I wonder why George Karl set up the last shot for Melo last night when Afflalo shoots a better percentage from deep-mid range. He missed it but why even set it up for him when Afflalo has the higher percentage from that range.

How is Pierce out of the discussion? His mid-deep range game is deadly and has been for years.

I guess because his ''percentage'' is too low that seems to be the only thing that matters in this thread.

Capp, please try not to be so tunnel-visioned. I'm guessing you missed this from earlier, so I'll repost it:

Some of the criteria for judging deep-mid range game can include

                    1. How consistent are they
                    2. How do they play on the back end of the second game in a row
                    3. Do they usually come off screens or shoot behind picks
                    4. Was the shot in an ISO situation
                    5. Who is defending them
                    6. Are they being doubled
                    7. Do they have an injury that is affecting their efficiency
                    8. Are they a number 1 option or a role player
                    9. Did they force the shot
                    10. What was the degree of difficulty
                    11. Was the shot at the end of the shot or game clock
I think a major part of Kobe not being as efficient as he could have been in the past from this range was his tendency to force the shot. There are only a few instances where it is necessary to force that shot (end of shot clock, end of game clock). I think this is why his efficiency is sky-high from there this year - he has not been forcing as many shots and has been picking his spots more. I haven't seen him play a single game this year where he has went into "old Kobe" mode where he basically says, "Gimme the ball and watch me work for a while then take the shot regardless of what's going on". He has been much less selfish this year than he has in the past. The guy's averaging nearly 25 a game on 18 shots. 18!!!!!! That's outstanding.

It's not that he couldn't shoot before and just learned how this year. Out of the criteria I quoted (and encouraged people to add to), he would have gotten below-average marks in forcing the shot (remember, we're talking between the free throw line and 3 pt line), shooting while double-teamed (see previous remark), and taking the shot with a high degree of difficulty. I don't buy the injury argument because it didn't affect his post shot.

I think the biggest improvement he has made is allowing his teammates to do more work on the offensive end. Shannon Brown, Steve Blake, Gasol, Artest, and Odom have all been shown more trust by the Black Mamba. Maybe it's maturity, maybe it's something different, but he is showing that he is more comfortable letting someone else score. Because of that, he is in more comfortable scoring situations from that range, which reflects in his percentage being higher from 16-23 feet than it has been for at least the last 4 years.

I'll try to get to Pierce, KD, and whomever else later. If anybody wants to join in, feel free.
