Why should they be blowing this up? Because he lied or because he told on himself? Gil ain't the first athlete(nor is he the last)to lie about faking an "injury"(see Kidd, Jason). The only thing he ****** up on was blabbing off to the media about it aka telling on himself basically. But other than that, I don't see what he did as something that has to be the lead story in DC Sports(which unfortunately it is because the Skins only play on Sundays).

And plus everyone knows how the DC Media is around here. If you don't grant certain Media members interviews or speak to them, then they go on some crusade to make you sound like your some evil person who works for the Devil. They did to Sean Taylor(RIP), they did to Clinton Portis, they did(still do to an extent)to Dan Snyder and now they're doing it to Gil and also Fat Albert as well.

You basically answered your own question. He ran his mouth about a supposed good thing he thought he was doing which was stupid in it's own right. He was the biggest sports personality in the city. His journey and subsequent fall from top dog to goat is something news worthy (sells papers/creates buzz).

The DC Media is no different than that of any large market. CP & Haynesworth have brought a lot of the negativity on themselves granted CP at least gives his all on the field.

Hopefully all this will continue to humble and mature Gil. I personally want him to do well, and not solely based on me being a Wiz fan.

Him and Big Al are fighting for the #1 spot on the most hated list. Gil won in a runaway last year. Al won this offseason. They are about neck and neck right now. Al got off to the early lead but Gil is making his push.

People hate on him because he displays the maturity of a 12 year old, when he's a grown man making millions of dollars. He does something stupid, but then he tells the media that "He didn't know he couldn't do it..." he always plays dumb. Or maybe he is just really, really, really, dumb. If he produced on the court, everybody would ignore it, winning cures all.

I think a certain guy named Michael Jordan brought a lot more respectability and attention to the Wizards than Gilbert Arenas ever has. At least positive attention anyway.

All of that went out the window the minute he drafted Kwame Brown with the #1 pick when everyone knew he wouldn't amount to crap in the NBA so all that respectability went out the window when he made that move.

Pretty much. Good for ticket sales when he was here but he set the franchise back a bit with bad drafts and bone-head trades. Not to mention those 2 yrs he played and willed us to ~.500 records we should have been bad and added a few more draft picks.

GIL lol, headcase, i dont think hes that bad of a guy just a little weird and makes Horrible decisions. And that would explain why a lot of people hate him because most people would kill for the talent and opportunity to play in the NBA, never mind the hundreds of million of dollars. Just dosent make sense
