What's getting taken out of context? He implied it once, and then flat out said it after. And he said it like it's obvious to anyone with a brain.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
I think when he says a class by himself, he's talking about athleticism and ceiling potential which I also believe Lebron is in a class by himself. If he can win now with the team he's on and produce statistics and spectacular feats like he did on the Cavs I see no reason why he couldn't be one of the greatest ever. The NBA has never seen a physical beast like Lebron, speed, size, and power with a jumpshot.Comment

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
I would say he's in a class by himself in terms of athleticism at that size, not so much in terms of Basketball skills. Lebron still has alot of holes in his game that are masked by his physical dominance. I'm still waiting for the guy to develops a respectable post-up game. Perhaps he's the next guy that needs to pay a visit to Hakeem....Comment

Exactly. He had the look on his face like there was no question about it and anyone who thought different was stupid.Comment

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
I honesty don't think LeBron's more athletic than Jordan. Bigger? Yes. Stronger? Of course. However, that's about the extent of LeBrons physical advantages. Jordan was quicker, more fluid, more balanced, had better lateral quickness, better body control, a superior vertical, etc. And more importantly than physical advantages, he was mentally stronger, on top of being vastly more skilled.
As others have already pointed out, Jordan in his prime was something to behold. He was far and away the best of his era. You can't say that with LeBron. What LeBron's currently doing really ins't unprecedented, and there's players in the league who are arguably as talented and effective. From D-Wade to Kevin Durant, right on down to Kobe. His level of talent has peers, as does his athleticism.
And to the poster who claimed "It's easier to find a 6'6" guard with the athletic ability of a Jordan...". Can you name a guard who's been as physically gifted as Jordan in the last 20 years? You may come up with one, and even he only matched him in terms of vertical leaping ability.
Here's something a lot of people don't think about. LeBron's game is based solely on his athleticism. His game isn't yet refined, and I doubt if it ever will be. A lot of times he simply steam rolls his way to the basket with little to no skill at all. Which leads to to wonder if his game and overall effectiveness will fade once he starts to lose his knees? At this point, my guess would be yes. Whereas Jordan was putting up 50 points at 40 years old.
And, yes, a lot of people are commenting as though they are oblivious to Jordan when he was younger.Comment

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
Bitterness? Did Barkley say this kind of stuff about Lebron before "the decision". Where is it written that you should be able to do whatever you want and still be respected? If its about teaming up with Wade in Miami, Lebron has lost a lot of respect by millions of people. Barkley isnt the only one. Is "bitter" the right word? Perhaps. But you either respect Lebron or you dont based on what happened and if Barkley lost respect for Lebron, its hardly Barkley's fault.Comment

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
No watch the video again.
He flat out says he is better then Jordan.
He asks him do you think LeBron is better then Jordan was.
He says yes LeBron is in a class by himself.
With that being said I live in Cincy and Oscar says alot of really stupid things that the whole country never hears.
Heck last year during a game he was screaming at UC's coach during a game, trying to tell him how to coach. Oscar is a very, very bitter old man who is angry at the World for some reason.
Anyways Lebron is in a class of his own. He is built like Karl Malone and handles like Magic.
We have seen the whole of Jordan's career. We have yet to see all of James's. So hush hush until its over.Comment

Maybe because he grew up in Cincy. Read some of the things he went through back then.

In the history of the NBA, here are the only players that are comparable in athleticism to Michael and LeBron.
LeBron: Karl Malone and Dominique Wilkins
Michael: Vince Carter and Penny Hardaway
They play two completely different games at much different positions. It may not seem like it sometimes, but the SG and SF positions are incredibly different. To compare them is pointless. To compare players across positions is ridiculous IMO. I think you should only compare within the position that each player plays.
Michael is without a doubt the best athlete and greatest player to play the SG position.
IMO, LeBron is without a doubt the greatest athlete to play the SF position. At this point in his career, Larry Bird is still the best SF to ever play the game, but (barring injury) I don't expect that to last through LBJ's career.
I agree with whoever said that LeBron has yet to refine his game. I think that's true and can be said of Dominique Wilkins as well. Nique never refined himself (he could barely drive left) and was never an all-time elite because of it. That doesn't mean LBJ won't refine his game going forward. Look at how raw Karl Malone was in the beginning of his career and how skilled he had become when he and Stockton were challenging Jordan for titles.

Re: Oscar Robertson says LeBron better than Jordan...
Jordan will always be better no matter what Lebron does in his career for the following reasons.
Jordan played team ball, Lebron never has and never will
Jordan had class, Lebron never has had it and never will
Jordan made the team around him better, Lebron makes the team around him worse
Jordan was a great defender, Lebron has never been a great defender and probably never will be
Jordan carried his team in the clutch in big games, Lebron wilts in the clutch in big games
Jordan knew how to be likable in the limelight, Lebron makes himself more unlikable the more limelight he gets
Jordan won championships, Lebron has not and may never match Jordan
Jordan was loved by the public, even non-Chicago fans, Lebron was only ever loved by his teams fans
And finally,
Jordan represented what was best about the NBA, Lebron represents what is worst about the NBA
So yeah, he's right, Lebron's in a class of his own, but not in the way he meant...Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

1. What? LeBron's game is repeatedly compared to Magic Johnson as opposed to Jordan. Look at the assists, man!
2. The class thing is a matter of opinion. Remember Jordan's HOF introduction speech? That was hardly class. I could bring up the gambling and the affairs, too.
3. LeBron's last two seasons in Cleveland, he led his teams to two best records in the regular season. To suggest he didn't make Mo Williams, JJ Hickson, Daniel Gibson, Andy V, etc. better is downright ignorant. You're quite obviously blinded by some kind of hate.
4. Jordan was a great defender and so is LeBron. It took LBJ awhile, but he developed into a great defender. To say he isn't a good defender is biased on your part.
5. Granted, Jordan was bigger in the clutch than LeBron but LeBron has stepped up in big games and playoff series.
6. This literally has nothing to do with basketball.
7. LeBron's career is not over and championships should not be measured in team sports.
8. A matter of opinion with no evidence whatsoever. I hardly think the everyone "adored" Jordan. I personally hated Jordan when he played but grew to respect his game after he retired. I loved LeBron up until July. I do not like him now.
