I think it's Dirk Nowitzki. Now don't get me wrong, we all know who he is but still, I think the man does not get the respect he deserves.

Sorry, I don't buy Dirk being underrated. These types of threads, you have to be really specific in your reasoning.Comment

Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NBA?
Yeah if you have an MVP award, made the last 9 all star teams, and have been all NBA the past 9 years with the last 6 being first or second team you really can't be underrated. He may not get the love he should by guys on the internet and such but in the NBA he is very highly regarded by the coaches and players.Comment

Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NBA?
agree on the Grant Hill mention.
the only one that really comes to mind is Danny Granger. NEVER hear about him (probably because he's in Indiana and they aren't very good). and when you do hear about him, it's only about his scoring, but he's a very solid rebounder and a good shot blocking wing player.
when this thread turns into an inevitable overrated thread as well, I'll chime in with a few of those

Hell, Tim Duncan is underrated.
But, if we're going to go with the "classic" version of underrated, then obviously "the elite" are going to be excluded from the discussion.
Then, I'll throw in Grant Hill, who, at 38, can still lead a team and still do so much of what made him incredible in the first place.Comment

He can still be underrated despite that. I'm not sure people realize just how unique and amazing he is.

Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NBA?
"Good" players and even All-Stars can still be underrated, but you need to explain why they are underrated.
As far as Dirk goes, I don't see in any light how he would be considered underrated.
Granger is nothing more than a scorer who really doesn't hold a light to guys who do it better like Melo and Durant. With that said Granger is still an All-Star, he's definitely recognized.Comment

Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NBA?
I'll copy and paste this from a similar thread that has been made on here in the past:
Underrated = Not talked about often, mainly on the Internet Boards and on BSPN and constantly don't have any highlights but are usually known among the die-hard Basketball Fans and get plenty of love from them but not enough from the Mainstream, Casuals.
Overrated = Gets talked about way too much by the Casuals/Mainstreamers, gets ridiculous comparisons mades to them, gets way too much air time either on TV or Internet to the point where people(die hard Basketball Fans) get enough of it and that's where the overrated talk gets started.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: Who is the most underrated player in the NBA?
The problem with overrated/underrated is that they don't focus on the now. John Wall is overrated along with most young players. BEcause we focus on what they will be able to do, rather than what they are doing now.Comment

I mean, I'll agree..Blake Griffin & John Wall are overhyped, along with several other young guys. But how can we distinguish. Wall & Griffin do seem to be living up to the original hype surrounding them, but everytime they do, the hype seems to grow...so is that overrated or overhyped?
(Sorry, I just never can distinguish between the 2..same thing with underrated & underappreciated)

Is John Wall overrated or is he just overhyped? Or is there even a difference?...

Would either of them start on the Lakers or the Celtics? They would be getting 10-15 minutes a game off the bench for a really good team.
They play for two of the worst teams in the league. They are playing a good amount of minutes and are allowed to make mistakes because there teams have no expectations.
This is the whole phenomena that happens with young players. They have a great skill but they are rarely effecient winning basketball players.
Tyreke Evans did some amazing things one on one last year. But his team was horrible and he struggled on making his team better. He gets a lot of hype for going 20-5-5. But how good is he really?Comment
