Re: Top 5 Point Guards of All Time
Pretty much my favorite list here. Are these lists put up by kids born in the mid 90s or what...
Top 5 all-time -
Pete Maravich
Gary Payton
John Stockton
Magic Johnson
Isaiah Thomas
This list is based on scoring ability and passing ability. These point guards could take over games, score 40+ or dish out insane amounts of assists. They had low turnover/assist ratios and had probably the highest basketball IQ's known.

It's a shame injuries shortened Pete's careerSaints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Top 5 Point Guards of All Time
1) Rajon Rondo
2) Number 9 for the celtics
3) The dude selected 21st overall in 2006
4) The player with the highest overall on the celtics on NBA 2K11
5) The starting point guard for U of Kentucky in 2005
What you think about my list Paris????
J/K. I'm not knocking you my man, but it really seems like you genuinely can't stand Rondo. I just find it humerous how hard you be going to make your argument that he's not a top 10 point guard. But like I said I'm not knocking you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
All jokes aside though, I am only 26 so I will only list the pgs that I have seen play.
1) Magic
2) Isiah T.
3) J. Stockton
4) J. Kidd

Re: Top 5 Point Guards of All Time
hmmm, i have a tough time with him. i view him like iverson, in that he wasn't big (6'2", 175 pounds), but neither were most guards are that time. i know he played forward in college and transitioned to guard in the pros. my sense is that he was named point primarily because he handled the ball most, but was also a shooting guard because he was their scorer when elgin was gone and for much of his career. to me, he's more of a combo guard in the wade or iverson ilk. able to do both, but more scorer/shooting guard than point.xbox gt - bmorerep87

Re: Top 5 Point Guards of All Time
No particular order:
1. Frazier
2. Stockton
3. Tiny Archibald
4. Big "O"
5a. West
5b. Maravich (though by later standards was probably consider a SG)
I never considered Magic a point guard. I'm not saying he couldn't handle the ball, but he was probably analagous to baseball's utility player for the Lakers, clearly not something just anyone could do.Last edited by daflyboys; 01-05-2011, 04:40 PM.Comment

Re: Top 5 Point Guards of All Time
For sure. West could be categorized as either a point guard or shooting guard. I like to call him a point because he often carried the ball across the timeline and made the intial pass to get the Lakers into their sets. You're right, his number was called often in the clutch.hmmm, i have a tough time with him. i view him like iverson, in that he wasn't big (6'2", 175 pounds), but neither were most guards are that time. i know he played forward in college and transitioned to guard in the pros. my sense is that he was named point primarily because he handled the ball most, but was also a shooting guard because he was their scorer when elgin was gone and for much of his career. to me, he's more of a combo guard in the wade or iverson ilk. able to do both, but more scorer/shooting guard than point.Comment
