Greatest Dunker (In Game & Competition)

    Thoughts?

My vote was for Vince Carter. He carried things he did in contest to games, and became a MASTER of the windmill. He made it look far too effortless. His 360s weren't too shabby either. He dunked on people as well as anyone (even jumping over people....)

I included LeBron in the poll, even though I know he hasn't done a contest. His in-game dunks are crazy, though.

For entertainment value, if you can (and want to), provide some video "evidence" to try to support your vote or opinion.

I'd say this one covers my vote...

My bad, man. You clearly answered before I posted the poll. Wanted to include David Thompson, but I didn't think his in-game body of work held up to everyone else's.
and I've never seen much footage of "The Hawk" dunking.

That list is too limited to just popular guys. There are many guys in the history of the league that dunked in games on competition.

          Charles Barkley
          Kenny Smith
          Larry Nance
Kevin Johnson's Dunk on Olajuwon in the Playoffs is my GOAT.

"In the 60s there wasElgin Baylor and Wilt Chamberlain; in the 70s the dunk was revolutionized by Julius Erving, David Thompson and Connie Hawkins; in the 80s Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins lead the show along with Darrel Griffith, Clyde Drexler and Spud Webb; in the 90s Mike was still wowing fans, but so was Dee Brown, Shawn Kemp and Kevin Johnson; and in the new millennium the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Nate Robison have delighted, providing numerous highlight moments."

Yeah Vince Carter hands down when I think of both in game dunks and the dunk competition it's not even close atleast in my mind.

Is that really called for? There have been some amazing dunkers in the history of the league for sure, but Vince Carter is without question top of the food chain with what he was doing as far as dunking both in competition and in game. He's at the top followed by probably in no particular order, Nique, Jordan, Bron, Dr J, Thompson, Kemp, Clyde. Alot of the old school guys are kept in high regard on the list based on the fact that they were pioneering dunking because the explosiveness and creative ability on alot of the dunks being done now blow out what they were doing then. Sure Dr J was a great dunker for his time, but his best dunks are getting you booed out of a dunk contest now because guys are on a whole other level with they're dunk games.

Vince is argueably the GOAT but ill take a Shattered Backboard IN GAME over a 360.

I'd also take Dwight and probably Lebron off the list as well.

Going by this, you must think Shaq is the greatest dunker since he did that.

Yeah and with the backboards not being that great quality back then it's just pure strength. Shaq was a good dunker tho when you just consider how big he really was.

My preference for a shattered backboard over a contest 360 doesnt take away from Vince's status. Reading is fundamental.

Yes, because we all know the only dunks he did were 360s in dunk contests.

                              My apologies sir.
