    Which isn't really saying much.

Kobe can go as well though.

Vince for perimeter players, Kemp for front court dudes.

i am going with MJ, Vince is not far behind, but I like Mj variety of dunks better than Vince, it is more smooth that Carter's for me

As I mentioned in my edited post, I was more or less curious as to how Vince Carter was seemingly left out of that discussion (turns out the article was on Carter). It caught my eye because not even a week ago I saw an article posted claiming that Blake Griffin had become the best in-game dunker of all-time, overcoming the likes of Jordan, Wilkins and Kemp (this time really with no mention of Carter). I was beginning to think there was an anti-Carter internet conspiracy brewing. Even if ultimate opinions differed, I still couldn't believe he wasn't at least mentioned (in the Griffin article). Here is a link to that great article:

                And an excerpt:
''In the middle of this game (Los Angeles Clippers 113, Minnesota 90), Timberwolves analyst Jim Petersen didn't think twice before including Blake Griffin in a group of the greatest all-time in-game dunkers. Soon after, without even the benefit of yet another Griffin throw-down, he didn't think twice before calling Blake the greatest in-game dunker in NBA history.

And while that may seem like a bit much, just seven weeks into his NBA career ... who else? Seriously. Who else do you have?

I watched endless hours of Dominique Wilkins on TBS growing up. Clearly I know my way around Michael Jordan's pamphlets, and even his catalogue. I was around for skinny Shawn Kemp. Julius Erving's ABA career was a bit of a miss, but we get the idea. But ... who? Reverence aside, who are you taking over this guy right now, in that area? And we're seven weeks in!"
The Blake Griffin point is a sad one, but true. I feel like the media attention him and his dunks are getting will quickly help him "surpass" Vince, 'Nique, Kemp, and Jordan as the greatest in-game dunker ever in the minds of fans who have never had the pleasure to see those others. (and won't take the time to just look it up).
The only real thing I hold against Griffin is this - of all of his SportsCenter highlight dunks, 3/4 of them seem to be on alley-oops. I've only seen a handful that he created for himself (ala VC, Mike, 'Nique, etc.). Until I see him constantly punishing people on his OWN, I can't put him in the conversation. He's certainly got potential to be there, though.

My buddy (who has been on Blake Griffin's dick since day 1), constantly asks me if I saw Griffin's latest highlights and how he's the greatest dunking big man ever. One day, I'd heard enough and directed him to this Shawn Kemp video. He sent me an IM 4 minutes later saying "Okay, so Griffin hasn't quite surpassed him, but he could!"

EDIT - and one guy I left off the list (aside from Dawkins, Thompson, etc.), that had some great moments in dunk history. What do you guys think about Scottie Pippen?

Kobe used to attack the basket and dunk on folks with so much anger... Vince has some special in game dunks and is clearly a better dunker as a whole but like i mentioned he never dunked on ppl like he was trying to put their whole body in the rim along with the ball...

now as i stated Vince is the better dunker, but i think Kobe had better in game, in traffic dunks. not fast break dunks. in the heart of competition dunks... but guess you disagree tho
                  Two things.
1.) of course Kobe will look like the more ferocious in-game dunker if the video you share of Carter is a top 10 someone made of all break away dunks. check out the video I posted in the opening post and you'll see that Carter dunked on more than his share of guys.

2.) the reason Carter doesn't seem to have dunked on so many people is because if you watched that video, you'll see that VERY few people ever try to go up and contest him when he drives in, making it look like he gets all uncontested dunks.

While I acknowledge Kobe Bryant was indeed a spectacular dunker, I must respectfully disagree with your comments mentioned above. If it can be declared that Mr. Bryant was "trying to put (opponents') whole body in the rim along with the ball" then I believe the same could be said about Carter. As Storm mentioned, the two links you provide later seem to support your point if only because they provide a limited scope. Upon further inspection (or with a singular viewing with any of Carter's three volumes of Top 100 dunks) it can be seen that Vince finished with a dunk through defenders just as well as he did around them or on breakaways.

One of my favorite games I like to play when I'm aimlessly YouTubing is the "Vince Carter On" game. It's where I type "Vince Carter On" then think of a random NBA power forward and center and I see what kind of results I get.

                      Example: Vince Carter On Dalembert
                      <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q93tZf1-jLk?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q93tZf1-jLk?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

I think this is the essence of Vince Carter. He appears to be so undeniable as the all-time dunker at this point because he was exceptional in all regards: flashy breakaways, half court power finishes, half court flashy finishes, dunk contest dunks in traffic. He did it all.

With all that said, I'm surprised Dominique Wilkins has as few votes as he does in comparison to the other nominees.

He doesn't belong anywhere near this conversation. I doubt if he would even be in the top 10 dunkers in the NBA right now.
