Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?

In my opinion it's the defense thats holding him back. Someone with his skill and size should be getting more steals and blocks a game. But thats just me. That's why I hold guys like CP3 and Rondo over him right now.

But Ex and Jason are right...

You can't honestly pick a top PG. Sorry.
Come on now it's not just Bulls fans saying it. You got guys like Barkley,Webber,McHale, and others on TV every night calling him the best in the league right now. Not to menton the panel of people who put together the race for MVP blog on NBA.com. There are alot of people other than Bulls fans pushing Rose right now.

Even as a Bulls fan I still put him a close second behind CP3 with Deron coming in right behind those two.

I meant on here. But anyway, I don't give a damn what those talking heads say [TNT/NBATV guys].

Care to link me to the panel of people on the MVP blog saying that Rose is now the #1 PG? I'm interested to read what they have to say.

The steals per game stat can be very misleading about a players defense. Iverson was at the top of the league every year in steals but nobody was calling him a great defender. Most guys who are high in SPG are guys who play the passing lanes.

There have also been plenty of guys who are known as great defenders who are low in the steals and blocks department. Rodman never got many steals or blocks at all but nobody wanted to see Rodman in their face when they had the ball.

I give you CP3 over Rose but there is no way I can see Rondo over him. Rondo's lack of any kind of jumpshot and horrible free throw shooting hold him back from being ahead or even on par with Rose. The Celtics team really does a good job of masking those problems. If you saw the game against the Lakers in the 4th quarter they was basically playing 4 on 5. The Lakers was daring him to shoot and he wouldn't take a shot and they lost the game. Same thing happened in game 7 last year. If he was on any other team that would get exposed very fast and his production would drop.

Oh ok I thought you was just speaking about in general.

I remember reading about it in one of the race to MVP blogs don't remember exact words or anything like that. It could have been one of the other sites MVP blog thing too. Don't remember exactly.

Maybe, but jeebs I can't at all put Rondo over Rose. Not to turn this into a PG thread... but Rose has improved his control over the halfcourt offense, and that alone has elevated him above Rondo IMO.

Rose's jumpshot is also improving, and that is very evident.

Until Rondo improves his set shot and FT shooting I will continue to hold him in the 2nd tier. I think Rose and possibly Westbrook are above Rondo in terms of knocking on the front door of the first tier.

Yea I totally understand. I wouldn't be surprised if most people agreed with you. I understand that people don't like Rondo because he doesn't fill the prototypical PG standards.

I wouldn't say people don't like him because he doesn't fill protypical PG standards cause quite frankly he does. The problem with Rondo is as ex and Pretty already pointed out, dude just flat out can't shoot jumpers or free throws. He runs the offense as well as any PG in the league, he guys the ball exactly where they want and even need it more often than not and his defense is there. However if his guys aren't on and you deny him the lane, he's pretty much useless.

Rose's defense is holding back while he guards the opponents point guard every night on the 1st or 2nd best defense in the league?

Yea I know my opinion wouldn't rock were with everyone. But I understand now when Ex say about its only Chicago fans who coming in here yelling "MVP! MVP!...Derrick Rose" lol

But again it is about what type of PG do you like.

We have 5 legit point guards in the league. That are sure fire top 5 in the league right now. CP3, Rose, Westbrook, Rondo and Deron Williams (in no special order). Its all about opinion at this point.

Again Derrick Rose is the leading candidate for MVP right now. It's his to lose.

It's just my opinion, but Steve Nash is still top 5. I don't know who you'd take off from those 5, but it feels wrong leaving him out. 17 ppg and 11 apg. 52% from the field(2nd best of his career). He's old, but he's still one of the best IMO.

As for MVP, Derrick Rose. Also who is the last player to win MVP this early in their career? Rose is only in his 3rd season.

But your right Nash is in there as well. It would be hard to take out anyone or add them from that list.

Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld won it in their rookie seasons...but they were also about 23 years of age. I think if Rose wins it, he would be the youngest MVP in NBA history.

Bob McAdoo was the last player to win it within his first three years. Moses won it his second year in the NBA but he had a couple of ABA years before he came to the NBA. Like Po Pimp said Wes and Wilt won it as a rookie. Rose would tie Wes Unsled as the youngest in NBA history to win the MVP. Spencer Haywood won an ABA MVP at 20 years old.
