Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?

Sometimes you'll have the arguments about MVP definition. Is it about stats? Is it about the best player on one of the best teams? Is it if you take them off the team, the team suffers? Is it about putting the team on your back? Is it making everyone else better?

Derrick Rose represents all those factors. Bulls have the #1 record in the league, everyone thought that Miami, Orlando, and Boston would firmly be ahead of them, his stats are phenomenal, he's put the team on his back with no other true "superstar"......

It's really nothing against Rose either, I just think his game is a bit out of whack in terms of stats etc. because he's been forced to do more than he really should be doing out of circumstance. (Not that I expect people to even be on my side here, it's just the way I feel when I look at all the advanced stats etc.)

And even if you go with most valuable to team, then I still feel like Dwight would be more important because I fear to think about what that defense would be without him now.

As Matrix echoed, the MVP award does not have a TRUE definition. It's about as cloudy as a rainy day in Seattle. And Chase, I can understand your point on Rose's stats. Because even me as a biased Bulls fan if you look at his stats ALONE, you make a solid case for someone else to win it. BUT in the undefined world of the MVP race, stats aren't the only thing that counts.

Part of it emphasizes the team situation. And this goes into another cloudy part of 'how valuable the player is to the team'. How do we know what the Magic would be like without Dwight Howard? I believe that he did miss one game this year due to a suspension and they lost that game. BUT is that enough for us to determine that the Magic would suck without Howard? Not really. Now common basketball knowledge would tell us that the Magic would take a hit if he was gone BUT how much of a hit? We wouldn't know unless he missed some significant time. And even at that point, some would argue, 'well, how can you give him the MVP if he was hurt most of the year?' Your damned if you do and your damned if you don't.

There are a lot of arguable variables on what makes an MVP. Is he the best player in the league? If that was the case then shouldn't Jordan have about 9 MVP's? Shouldn't Kobe have more than one? Then you ask, should the MVP have the best stats? BUT you can also argue, how come Shaq and David Robinson only have one MVP award a piece? Because if you looked at their prime years, they had numbers that I might say was better than Jordan's.

Stats play a part in the race BUT I also think that team success plays a factor as well. NOW, the stats don't have to be mind-blowing. If that was the case then Kevin Love would be a solid MVP candidate. BUT team success weighs heavily in the MVP race. And Matrix brought up a good point about team expectations as well. The Bulls were predicated to be competitive, but very few people expected them to be on top of the East at this point. The Heat is somewhat of a disappointment because some predicted this team to win 70 games(or at least be close). This is a huge reason why LeBron is trailing Rose in the race. Even though LeBron has better numbers and is the best player in the league, his team's expectations hurts his chances.

In short, if the Heat was on pace to win 65-70 games, LeBron would be the MVP 'hands down'. If the Bulls was a .500 ball club, Rose's name wouldn't even be in the conversation.
I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm X

It's blatantly obvious who should get it at this point:

              Kris Humphries.

I can't in my right mind give the award to DRose. It's turned into a Nash situation where he'll win it, but I don't think he should. I still would have to give it to LeBron or Dwight. And as blasphemous as it really is to say, I wouldn't even mind Westbrook getting it over Rose.

Isn't that the point? You just argued why he SHOULD be MVP. Not only that, his record is better than all your MVP candidates. He's doing more with less...easy MVP choice in my opinion.

No no... Pro Pimp... I can understand where ChaseB is coming from. When you compare the way Dwight and LeBron effect their teams defensive and offensive. It can't be compared to Rose on both sides of the ball. Again don't get it twisted I think Rose is our MVP this year. But try to see from his point of view. I just don't see Rose making the plays defensively. The guys mention are doing both. I think if Rose had more steals or shut down more point guards. we wouldn't be having this convo.

But again...don't get it twisted. Rose is our MVP. I have no doubt about that. And he would get my vote.

There is a case to be made for him. I don't think it'll happen BUT I wouldn't be surprised if he won it.

Derrick Rose actual is playing pretty good defense this season, and he is shutting down opposing guards. And how does Lebron effect his team defensively? If you want to compare "stats" for steals and blocks, Lebron and Rose are pretty similar.

Well, no, because he's doing that stuff poorly. Like shooting 5 or 6 3s a game and making 25% of them etc.

He's shooting 33% from 3 which is about average. For comparison, James is shooting 34% from 3.

But he's shooting 33% for the season, nothing spectacular but he's still improving. And a lot of those games were he's shooting 25% out 5 to 6 shots, a couple of those 3's were last second trying to beat the shot clock half court heaves. His shot 3pt selection isn't that great but thats something that will improve with time.

Look I'm not trying to make an argument that lebron is mvp lol. I was saying I could see his point of view in his post.

Edit: Lebron makes a team difference in rotations. Probably the best weakside sf in the league. I don't think anyone covers ground like him.
