There isn't one. Role players are just as valuable as the presumed 'star players' when it comes to winning the Title. However the 'Most Visible Production' award will most likely go to Derrick Rose.

I think "certainly" is a little strong. Chances are they won't make it, but they've been playing pretty well lately.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
LeBron James is the MVP thus far and it's really not close.
He's putting up the best numbers with one of the best records and outside of the big 3, his team is awful. Due to injuries to Haslem/Mike Miller etc., and their already pitiful depth, I classify his team as just awful at this point.
Second closest is Dwight Howard. He's having a career year and his team's record is up there.
You can't say Rose IMO because Westbrook is putting up better numbers.
You can't say Dirk because LeBron is putting up better numbers.
You can't say Amare because his team is not that far above .500Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
It was closer before Dirk got hurt but right now it is Rose. What he has done with Noah and Boozer both missing time is amazing. Before the season started people was picking the Bulls anywhere from 4 to 6 in the east and way behind the Heat,Celtics, and Magic. Some was even picking us behind Atlanta. He has carried the Bulls to within 3.5 games of the best record in the East and only 1.5 behind the Heat. No other canidate on the list has had his second and third best player both miss major time.
What hurts LeBron to me, is the same thing he said himself, the fact that he and Wade are on the same team. When you have another guy on the team who put up 25 a night it doesn't help your case.
Can't agree here my man. The numbers are Rose 25,8,5 with shooting percentages of 45,38, and 81. Westbrook is 22,8,and 5 with shooting percentages of 44,24,and 86. Those are pretty close number but when you look into the advanced stats it's Rose by a pretty decent margin. Rose has the higher TS%, eFG%, ORtg, DRtg, OWS, DWS, and WS. But what really seperates the two to me is that fact that Rose doesn't have the luxury of playing with the leagues leading scorer every night.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
You right about Rose/Westbrook and the numbers Pretty.
Buuut going back to LeBron for a second, I can't penalize him nor Wade for playing with one another due to their other teammates and all of the injuries to their few decent support players. I'm not saying what they're doing is amazing by any stretch, but it is very impressive nonetheless.
LeBron hasn't really 'looked' as MVPish as in years past, but I cannot give Rose the nod over LeBron at this point. He is in the discussion and could later emerge, but just based on LeBron's production/record/lack of support other than Wade/Bosh I have to give it to LeBron at this point.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
It's not that I'm penalizing LeBron or Wade for having each other it's that I'm giving the nod to Rose because he doesn't have that other guy like they have plus a Bosh to go along with it. LeBron is still the best player in the league but for this season IMO Rose has ment more to his team and their success which is why I give him the nod at this moment. Alot of basketball is left so all this could change between now and the end of the year.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
There are different criteria for being an MVP.
Amare's a candidate because he's made New York relevant again. Being responsible for such a marked turnaround for one of the league's most prestigious franchises, and changing the entire culture of the team is more important than finishing with a Top 4 record in his regard.
Dirk is a candidate because he's leading one of the best teams in the league, and we saw what happened when he was out for an extended period of time. Oh, and his numbers are not too shabby either.
Rose, well, Rose is just flat out dominating games and leading his team to victory and top 4 record in his conference.
LeBron? Sorry, no. I don't care about his stats. You have 3 guys on one team who are Top 15 in the league, I don't care which trash is on the bench, you're disqualified in my book.
Ginobili should also be in the discussion. His team has the best record AND he's been most instrumental in that. And his team doesn't have NEARLY the starpower that LA, Miami, and Boston have.
We need to stop with that hard-line MVP criteria. Fact is, there are so many things that can make an MVP candidate.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
Discounting LeBron is simply foolish.
Giving Amare credit for turning a team around simply because they play in NY? That's equally as foolish. They're 4 games over .500. LOL. Get out of here.
Having 3 of the top 15 players is great and all, but when your only decent support players have been hurt, LeBron deserves to be in the discussion and the fact that his numbers are still absurd and their record... disqualifying him? LOL at that.
I don't know if some people actually watch Miami play or not.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
I think its shakey to use NUMBERS as the defining criteria and its shakey as well when u say "Prestigious Franchises" which is more of an emotional response than a factual one. What's next - Most Jerseys Sold or Most Community Work?
And do Lebron's Numbers eliminate Dirk's Numbers when the Win total is similar?
There are many factors.
If u win 20 more games but miss the Playoffs or get bounced in the first round, how do u gauge that? 20 games on top of a 30 win team or 20 games added to a 15 win team?
Griffen/Gordon vs STAT/Felton?
Does Ginolbli have to be a 20+ scorer to be qualified? Can u be a very good team player on the "best" team, or be the obvious standout on a contender?Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
With how much more labor LeBron has to go through to get wins compared to Cleveland, I just think it's extremely unfair you disqualify him from the discussion..
Outside of obvious chemistry issues they're still working through, they've had to deal with key injuries. Losing their only decent support options in Miller and Haslem has put 100% of the pressure on the 3 stars. Their bench was already paper thin to begin with and their centers are laughable.
LeBron has handled the added pressure and produced almost like he always has. Like I said, that is extremely impressive.
If you've seen Miami play and you're not impressed or you think he should be disqualified from the topic.. I mean how can you justify that. Do you not agree that he looks to be laboring more than his MVP years in Cleveland? He and Wade are having to do virtually all the work in terms of creating offense and anchoring the defense.
It comes down to this: LeBron is definitely in a better position with Miami to get a ring than he was with Cleveland.
However that doesn't mean LeBron has it easier to get regular season wins or to win in general.
With LeBron having a 2nd banana and a post option, those two things are crucial to get a ring.
Therefore I still believe LeBron can win MVP even with 3 top 15 players.Last edited by ex carrabba fan; 01-18-2011, 07:33 PM.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
Personally I think if you put up big numbers on stacked team its more impressive then putting up the same type numbers on a average team or lesser talented team. Lebron averaging 25 pts 7 ast 7 rebs with lesser touches this year is better than the 29 pts 8 ast 7 rebs last year when he dominated the ball for 40 minutes.Comment

Re: Who is your NBA MVP as of right now?
I think right now the discussion includes Rose, Dirk, and Lebron.
Rose - He's been tearing it up all year and has Chicago winning even though Noah and Boozer have missed quite some time.
Dirk - He was off to a fantastic start and has shown just how valuable he is to Dallas as shown to how they've played without him. I don't think he should be penalized for being injured.
Lebron - As much as I don't really like him it's hard not to appreciate his basketball skills."You got it man. I don't watch hockey." SidVish"I thought LeBron James was just going to be another addition to help me score."
Ricky Davis"The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits." Albert EinsteinComment

They are depended upon to create for virtually every play. They are asked to push the ball more and expend a lot of energy. Wade is used to that, but James probably is pushing himself much more than in recent years where he had a comfort level in Cleveland and parts that knew their roles.
So I refuse to buy the 'he has it easy' shtick aka 3 top 15 players on one team.Comment

Alright, let's throw him in there.
Not like I have a vote anyway, so what I say is largely irrelevant.Comment
