Re: The worst pick up players.

Love this thread. Read like 8 pages yesterday and you guys had me rolling.

It was mentioned, but I can't stand the guy who gets scored on by an obviously good opponent the first 10 seconds of the game and takes it upon himself to try to trade buckets with him the entire game. When everyone knows on the court he's not nearly as good, but his ego is too big to just accept the fact.

For me it's the guy playing in Cut off cargo shorts, a name brand polo shirt, pumas, and some fancy nba long socks. He sucks the entire game, TALKS TRASH ALL DAY, but somehow makes the last shot EVERY TIME. Only time I've ever contemplated injuring someone on purpose. lol

Worst player I've ever played with or against....

At the the gym I get stuck on this dudes team and he proceeds to literally go like 3 for 25 from the field. And his buddies keep passing to him, and he keeps shooting. We lose by 20. Dude has a very punchable face, I'm just sayin. Yelled at him the entire game but I'm pretty sure he's deaf. Is it me or do people suck more at basketball than they used to? Maybe it's the Kobe/MJ effect. But honestly the problem is not enough people call out these SCRUBS. Do me a favor, when you see a scrub who is ball-hogging, wherever you are, call him out. We need to spread awareness on ball-hogging scrubs lol.

Calling out scrubs can be tricky business. I remember one instance where a guy I'd played ball with for years got stuck on an opposing team largely composed of high school freshman and sophomore players, who all took the game half-serious - not getting back on defense, joking with each other when they missed stupid shots, etc. Both teams had similar skill levels but we destroyed his club... because we tried.

He kept his cool but was visibly frustrated because he just wanted to play ball but couldn't stay on the court due to his goofy teammates not trying. I saw the young players mocking him afterward, saying stuff like, "What's his problem?" and I politely was like, "Hey fellas, he's a cool dude, I just think he'd like it if people played hard, because this might be one of his only chances to play all week and you guys are just goofing."

Those dudes have hated me ever since.

Let em hate you. I never find that style of play (anything but trying to win) fun so I'm not going to act like it is.

The only time I'll mess around like that is when I'm playing solely with my friends and nobody is really in the mood to play hard. PLaying like that with people you don't know is obnoxious as hell.

The problem with people screwing around is that it takes only one person to start doing it for it to derail an entire game.

I really hate dudes who face guard me the entire game and stare me dead in the eye.. It really makes me laugh and I usually ask why they're doing it and they usually all say "I don't want to lose sight of u"

Also, the body odor guy reemerged this evening, the one whose armpit I accidentally stuck my hand in while closing out a few years ago. He was goofing around before a game and bear hugged two players at one time. I did not envy their position.
I have a buddy who doesn't stink (literally) but sweats like Patrick Ewing. We call him Patrick Chewing sometimes cuz he's skinny fat, skinny everywhere except his stomach. Dude goes through like 3 or 4 shirts in 2 hours of hooping indoors. It's semi-polite that he changes shirts though cuz he could definitely do you like Iceman did Ben Stiller.

SO I was at 24hr fitness in Dallas off Royal Ln. Fun times. This older gentleman lunged at me b/c I kept hitting threes(its just what I do on a good night, no biggie) I side step him(just your avg cross over) he falls 2 his knees and them flops on his back. One of the funniest things I have seen at the gym in 20 years. My boy kept asking him if he was okay and if I pushed him over like that(sarcasm) He was talking so much junk till that play.

                      That is all.

Lol except when it's the same scrub(s) from your gym/park you've seen for months / years. Some players just never learn. Some will never learn that making 3 out of 20 threes is bad basketball. It's just difference in philosophy or maybe they have no bball philosophy or no idea how to win. Some NBA players are the same way. You have your Tim Duncans and your Monta Ellis', at some point it just is what it is. Hate getting stuck on their teams, love playing against them.

the guy the has to make the flashy pass "or the best pass" all the time. it sounds like a paradox but let me explain.

don't get me wrong, this guy is a brilliant passer. however if its not the best pass to the cutting man, then he just won't make the pass.

so my game is either on the block or on the perimeter depending on who's guarding me. so if I call for the ball, give me the ****ing ball. you don't have to drive an dish every single time. I'm 6'6 for heavens sake. LET ME EAT. we don't need the best pass on every possession down.

                              How about these guys:

                              - the sloppy passer: This guy's passes are always slightly off target, too slow or too fast, so you can never do anything with the ball, because the defense always has time to react.
                              - the fat and tall perimeter player: How I loathe him. He's 6'4 or taller, weighs a metric ton and chooses to rather stay beyond the arc to shoot the occasional three-pointer. He's way too slow to interrupt the other team's fast-breaks, too. Not that he'd try, anyway.
                              - the center circle opportunist: he'll watch from mid-court how things develop on the defensive end just to wave and scream his lungs out once his team is in possession.
                              - Wannabe D-Wade: somehow always gets fouled when he misses a layup, even if nobody even touched him
                              - the pessimist: Yells 'rebound!' everytime he puts up a shot.
