Oh I think just about everyone in this thread is guilty of at least one of the characteristics mentioned. Well, maybe guilty's not always the right word because I think some of these criticisms are more hilarious than derogatory, but nonetheless, I admit I've definitely read a few posts here and said to myself, "Waiiiiit a second, that sounds an awful lot like someone I know (me)." Even the post right before yours, where Chairman mentioned the guy going to his corner after a game... that's definitely me sometimes.

LOL! No Jerzey, I'm serious! *I* cannot shut ANYBODY down! I can't guard a freakin' tree-stump man! I would score all over myself! LoL

As a matter of fact, someone no doubt mentioned, "Can't Guard Anybody Guy." That would be me.

Re: The worst pick up players.

How about the old guy that probably used to be good and can barely move anymore but always seems to stand in the right spot in any given situation and never misses a jump shot? I call him the Tim Duncan or Larry Bird type. I guess he's not a bad guy to play with unless he's a whiner or foul-call junkie but I'm sure we've all played with and against him.

As for frustrating players? Yeah, the guys who can't find a competitive balance are the worst. I understand it's a pickup game being played largely by guys who have gone as far as they're ever going to playing the sport (and in most cases that's not too far) and it's only for fun but come on. At least [I]try[I] to play the game with a little intensity. Few things are more frustrating than being able to walk to the rim and shoot a flat-footed shot because the other team doesn't care.

On the flip side I also hate the guy lowering shoulders and delivering forearm shivers while screaming at everyone for not setting picks, missing shots or losing the ball. There's so much space in the middle to play and have fun... why do some people feel the need to go bat-**** in one direction or the other?

This is more of just a pet peeve for me...

When your teammates set a screen and then just stand there. Especially when both defenders come out on me. Roll to the goal and you will have an easy two points. Instead they just stand there and let the D off easy.

Also occasionally we only have enough players for full court so we will play 3 on 3 half court. With that said, players who don't crash the boards while playing half court grind my gears. There's no sense in staying back, no body's leaking out on a fast break, so stop standing at the 3 point line doing nothing.

One thing that I know that I do wrong and am always trying to consciously make an effort to fix is following my shot. I'm a "watcher" when it comes to shooting. I can't tell you how many long rebounds I have missed because i'm admiring what I think is an beautiful 3 rather than following my shot.

I was playing a charity 3-3 tournament the other day. 12 minute games or up to 15. Things started of good I hit 2 quick shots, then I get an elbow to the nose (don't say anything) but still make the shot, this kid lowers his shoulder into my head still don't say anything. so I'm on a huge hot streak made my first 5 shots in 2 minutes and we were up 5-1. Then these kids who are playing physical start calling weak fouls, after we let them get away with stuff cause it was for charity. This really threw our team off and we ended up losing.

How about the NBA player that you have no idea how he didnt at least play college ball for a division one school?

I actually wear a headband because sweat gets in my eyes a lot, and I don't consider myself bad or Jordanesque. Some people just need it.

Re: The worst pick up players.

The players who throw it to you and you miss once or twice, so when you are wide open and they are getting doubled teamed the next time, they stare at you , don't pass and continue driving to the hoop and get killed by the double team.

No one is going to shoot 90-100 percent all the time. Hell, even the best pure scorer in the nba can't do that so you can't expect a regular street ball guy to shoot like that.

How about the guy who flat out sucks at every aspect of basketball?

The guy who airballs layups, can't shoot at all, ballhogs, plays extremely dirty and calls some of the worst phantom fouls ever.

My gym has a guy just like that and he manages to get on everyone's nerves.

Re: The worst pick up players.

I *hate* that! We played last weekend, and it was like playing 4 on 5. We had a guy on our team that was just awful. Actually, it was more like 3 on five, cause he was a deficit. Not only was he a HORRIBLE shot, but he kept shooting!! Just chuckin' up threes!! He'd dribble up court with his head down, and there would literally be teammates under the hoop waving their hands!

And his guy was scoring at will. The guy couldn't guard a corpse. Ggrrrrrr... Still mad about that.

What about that fat old guys who play in leagues and recruit a bunch of college players and former college players to play with him.. He sits the bench, talks the most ****, and adds no contribution to the team.

One of the worst outings I had was vs this guy wearing some game shorts I didn't recognize. After he fried me my buddy filled me in, "Oh Black (his nickname), yeah he's nice. He hoops in Italy and gets buckets."

As you get older you see more accessories. Guys are always looking to gain an advantage and fight father time. The accessories I wear are out of necessity, lol.
Sorry I'm WAY late in responding. It's different if you're wearing YOUR gear, lol. I think wearing shorts is different anyway, but especially if they're shorts you got from a team you play/played on. I'm talking more about official (not reverseable or league/camp jerseys) and more specifically, matching outfits and accessories.
