Oh me too, totally.
"Oh me? Yeah, I was just grabbing rim with authority real quick. Had no idea everyone had gathered around to shoot teams. Embarrassing you all had to see me jump so high."Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Ooooh, I got another one:
Guy who can't dribble, but continues to try to dribble.
Played with a guy yesterday who attempted to dribble (I kid you not) six times and got it stolen. Why this big guy would think it's a good idea to dribble into the lane and attempt crossovers and between the legs moves I have NO idea.
But he got it stolen EVERY time!! And to make it worse, he NEVER once hustled back to help stop the fast break that ensued. I finally just said, "Dude, do NOT dribble anymore!"Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Lol dude that was hillarious.
A bit of backstory(He's my pops in real life), we were just playing a pickup game of 5 on 5 on the blacktop at the nearby park.
This kid is on my dad's team and he is a 5'11 215 pound highschool kid(not built what so ever). He has a good shot but he kept dribbling into a crowd of 2-3 people and kept getting it stripped. Being that he is pretty hefty he didn't have close to the make up speed to stop the fast break either.
It got so obnoxious to his team that after the 4th-5th strip my Dad yelled out "Ok, you can't dribble anymore. Go in the paint, sit on the three, but you are not allowed to dribble for the rest of the game."
Hahaha he had me and my team dying on the other side of the court.
Lesson of the day is, if you are a big, don't go dribbling like Tony Parker into a crowd of people.

Re: The worst pick up players.
Slow day at the park yesterday, not the usual crew of ball players. Of those present, one had music constantly blaring from his pocket (I'm guessing via iPhone). Aside from the weirdness and discomfort that must come from playing basketball with an iPhone in one's pocket, it was strange to hear the sound of pop rap constantly fading in and out as you closed out and helped throughout the contest. Would probably be better filed under, "Signs you're not in for a competitive night of basketball.... "Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
What really annoys me with some guys is the pointless "sizing up" out of the triple threat for 10 seconds even though they have absolutely no jumpshot whatsoever and no plan how to respond to defensive reactions. But they look all focused at the defender as if they're Kobe waiting for the right moment to jack up some 20 ft fadeaway. Who cares about having 4 teammates standing around if you can pretend to be MJ in your complete NBA outfit?
It annoys the hell out of me. I can make 5 cuts and set 10 screens during the time these idiots try to look cool isolating on the wing before driving with their strong hand every time anyway.Comment

LOL I know that guy! Stands there cradling the ball, jabbin' his foot over and over again... Sigh.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Semi-related to the extended triple threat guy (and a close relative of the "no, passing to the open player would be too obvious" guy), I am not a fan of the dude who sees you coming off a screen, or L-cutting, or otherwise flashing out to the wing to receive a pass, only he waits until you've come to a stop - allowing your defender to recover and nullifying any type of advantage you had going in the first place.
What usually happens next is he'll realize I'm no longer open, but he really did want to pass to me, so then I fake backdoor and cut out higher. Then I'll fake backdoor again (in this situation I won't actually cut backdoor because if that guy's not good at hitting a flasher to the wing, he's definitely not someone who'll be dropping backdoor dimes from the top of the key), then he'll look for another person before eventually handing the ball to me 30 feet away from the hoop.Comment

Re: The worst pick up players.
Oooh, what about "Waits to see if shot goes in before he calls foul" Guy.
My brother and I nearly came to blows once when I fouled him on a drive to the hoop and he threw it up there. It bounced around and rolled off the rim, and he says, "Foul."
That's bul&^%$t as far as I'm concerned.Last edited by Chairman7w; 05-23-2013, 06:32 PM.Comment
