Crap article IMO. The rip move is just a perimeter version of what goes on down low. Big men are taught to keep their hands straight up so the offensive player has to break the plane to create contact. Why straight up? Because if your arms are slanted, you are breaking the vertical space entitled to the offensive player. It's the same reason taller perimeter players can't defend by holding their hands above a shorter player's head. If he jumps and you make contact with anything other than the ball, it is an automatic foul.
The only reason people are being caught so often is because of the speed, height and accuracy of Durant's release. What the D is doing is a passive aggressive version of over playing. Instead of pushing Kevin to a place, limiting his options and reacting, they are playing jumpshot as a default. The rip move is keeping them honest. You gotta move your hand in and out and get into his body. Allowing the defensive player to impede the vertical rise of the shot condones laziness.
If KD was jumping forward, like Wade and Pierce after a fake, it'd be different because that is breaking the defender's horizontal plane. 9 times out of 10, KD is going up.Comment

The "rip" thing is BS. If the offensive guy is the one initiating contact, he deserves the foul. Bottom line. It's no better than the lean-in bull**** you see guys do.Comment

When you break the plane, as a defender, you are not allowed to touch anything besides ball. The rip move usually happens inside of the broken plane. It's the same as sticking your leg out on a screen. Even if you stick your leg out first, you are breaking the barrier you are entitled to. The defender is not entitled to the space that their outstretched arms reach out to. That's why it is a violation, Matrix. Even if you disagree with it, it is completely different than the offensive player breaking his plane and jumping forward. In the case of the rip, feet are planted, so it's a completely different circumstance and not similar too a situation where feet are leaving the ground, which is a pretty significant difference in organized basketball rules.Comment

I have hardly watched TNT in terms of when they cut to the studio, but it's hilarious to me watching Fox and Webber there sitting together.
How's Fox doing? I didn't like him much as a Laker guest analyst.
I want them to start talking trash to each otherComment

Rondo is awesome, but he has not been better than Paul Pierce or KG. Ever. As much as people like to talk about guys sacrificing their numbers, they are real quick to forget how skilled these guys are. The plays that KG and Pierce make in the playoffs are unreal. Rondo is turning into a very good player but the holes in his game are HUGE.Comment

Fox? Rick Fox? Is on TNT's crew now? Ugh. I hate that ugly mug. Better be a one-time thing.Comment

I would love LA to meet Dallas in the playoffs. They can score anytime they want on them from multiple positions and Dallas doesn't have any playmaker 1-3 that scares me.
IMO it would end up going 6 or 7 games but LA should handle them.Comment

Regression?
He's been doing pretty good there from everything I heard, especially after working with Pop back in the Offseason. Think 24 said he was playing pretty good as well this year.#RespectTheCultureComment
