    Adelman done in Houston

Rick Adelman Out as Head Coach in Houston

It’s not exactly shocking news — except maybe to some of his players, who for the most part have been publicly supportive — but Rick Adelman won’t be coaching the Houston Rockets anymore. Reports the Chronicle: “Rick Adelman, who led the Rockets to their only playoff series win in 17 years and a franchise record 22-game winning streak, will not return as Rockets coach, a person with knowledge of the decision said Monday. After consecutive seasons in which the Rockets failed to reach the playoffs, Adelman and Rockets general manager Daryl Morey failed to reach agreements on how they would continue to work together. In four seasons with the Rockets, Adelman had a 193-135 record, the best winning percentage (.588) of any coach in franchise history. He moved to eighth in NBA history in career coaching wins with 945. Adelman, 64, had expressed ambivalence about remaining in coaching, but said last week that he has not lost his desire to coach. He had been openly frustrated with decision-making during last season that led to a trio of trades over his objections that seemed designed to aid future seasons. ‘I’ve talked this over with my wife and we have a pretty good idea what we would do either way,’ Adelman said last week. ‘It’s OK either way. There are definite things I want to know if I were to have the opportunity to come back.’ In each of the Rockets’ previous coaching hires, they went with proven coaches — Adelman and Jeff Van Gundy — who had sat out the previous seasons. Former Cleveland coach Mike Brown, former Hawks coach Mike Woodson and Van Gundy could fit that pattern.”

I certainly wouldn't mind if he came to New York, but probably won't happen.

    Pretty lame.

Kinda wish we had a vacancy. I think Adelman is underappreciated. Dude can have powerful offensive teams that also play D.

Great coach, they were battling for playoffs all the way down to the wire. I dont really know what else they want from a coach with that roster and Yao not being there.

Well, Rick wants to win now but the team needs to rebuild so I can understand this move. Rick was very reluctant to play young guys and from what I have read a lot of people were unhappy with his stubbornness

Pretty much. He didn't agree with a lot of the trades Morey has made and lots of people were annoyed that he refused to play T-Will.

I think the more interesting question is where will he go next?

There seems like there will be a lot of high-profile jobs opening up. Like the Lakers (I bet they'll go with someone they are more familiar with) or maybe even the Knicks?

It's hard to see Rick coaching a super-big market team but he says he still wants to coach.

Isn't the Laker job pretty much Brian Shaw's?

He needs to go to either:

                      Indiana

                      or

                      NY.

                      Urban Meyer is lol.

Rick Adelman would never go to LA after what happened.

Never thought of Orlando...yeah that makes a lot of sense. Orlando will be doing a lot to keep Dwight around and Rick could get that team rolling offensively. His offense is going to get those guys open shots even if teams don't double Dwight.

Also as been stated, he has had solid defensive teams. I could see that working out very well.
