Re: Western Conference Playoffs - Second Round Discussion Thread

I am having a hard time believing the Lakers are done. Sports talk radio sometimes infuriates me. I will believe they are done when the Mavs win two more games this series, not before.

Last night the Lakers were 2-20 from 3PT range. No one in hell that will happen again. They pretty much played their worst game last night. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they go 50% or better from 3PT range in game 3.

Agreed. If you're a Mavs fan, this should be an uneasy feeling right now. I like the Mavs a lot and would love for them to get over the hump so to speak, but there's more ball to be played. Going home doesn't guarantee you anything.

But to my point of my earlier post, I had never given him his due. Although it bears repeating, Chandler has made life easier for Mr. Dirk. Just having Haywood was not enough. They needed a more athletic center who wasn't brooding and heavy footed. Now Dirk is continuing to put up huge numbers AND winning games. Dethroning LA and dispatching of their vaunted bigs would definitely help stifle the soft label.

Once again: Chandler is definitely putting in work!
Yes indeed Ex, Chandler isnt exactly Wilt part 2 but he is exactly what this team has needed. He makes a huge difference for this team, especially for Dirk. So does Haywood. They are the best centers Dallas has had in the Dirk era and their contrasting styles makes for a nice one two punch defensively in the post. The Mavs dont have to play 4 against 5 on offense either with those guys like they usually did with Dampier and Diop. They arent huge offensive threats obviously but defenses at least have to account for them, especially Chandler on the P and R.

This series is far from over obviously. If anyone can win 4 out of 5, it's the champs. The odds are stacked pretty heavily against it though obviously, especially considering the Lakers bench problem and their match up problems.

LA's bench problem is going to get worse next game without Artest and only one day in between games. Dallas will go at them in waves. The worst sign for the Lakers is their defense against screen and rolls. Dallas is going to punish the **** out of them with those screens..Gotta love watching the Mavs screening the **** out of Kobe and making him exert more energy..Gotta love the aggressiveness Dallas is showing. They need to keep their foot on the gas.

I dont know about feeling uneasy, maybe cautious....

Hey, the Mavs havent played their best ball either. How many teams can say they beat LA shooting 42%?
If any team can come back, its LA...true. But Dirk, Terry, even Matrix have been a part of these type situations before....no way they ease up on the gas at this pointt.

I gotta agree with both you guys. Too bad we gotta wait until tomorrow to see this unfold. The buzz is definitely getting big out here. Everywhere I've gone today I've heard talk about the Mavs.

The Lakers could be down 20 points going into the 4th quarter of Game 4 down 3-0 and I'd still expect them to win that game and 3 straight after that.

Exactly. It's May and if you're still "going through the motions" then you either shouldn't be playing Basketball right now or you're really lucky to even be playing right now.

I'm still cautious as well about them(mainly because I still have visions of D-Wade getting any call he wanted in that Series)but if Dallas can take Game 3, I'd feel very confident in them taking this series. But right now, I'm still kinda in "wait and see" mode, if you get my drift.

If we were talking about the celtics. I would probably agree. But the lakers have not shown anything that can make me think twice. Up 16 lose in that game and last nights defensive break down did it for me all at home.

To change my mind they have to come out and out the mavs in game 3 to change my mind

                        Why?

Didnt they have a massive home collapse to Boston before they lost in the finals?

                        They just had another collapse

Magic said the Mavs have them pointing fingers at eachother and he's not optimistic... while he is right, they never listen to him

This is also a crossroads game for the Mavs. Dirk has no one poking him in the face or getting up in his grill, he also has a guy on the inside worth being respected so he doesnt have to jack up fadeaways when someone should be manning the inside.

Its not the exact same Mavs team but at the same time they have something to prove to themselves to get over a mental hump thats haunted them for years. In times past when things got real heated, Dirk and the Mavs melted, but I see opportunity here where he can change that

Tyson might be the best thing that may have happened to Dirk because he knows he has someone who will have his back if anybody tries that mess West did to him in the playoffs a few years ago.

Because I'm mentally damaged with Laker bull**** for 20 years, I guess. Just seems to be how they operate.

And Pack, yeah, Chandler is amazing for Dirk, or any offensive PF. We were thiiiiiiis close to getting Chandler for Ben Wallace's contract to put him alongside Amare, but I guess it didn't work out for whatever reason.

                            Would have been absolutely killer.
