Re: "Changing of the guard" in the NBA

    @CV

What does the size of the market have to do with guys locker room chemistry? We saw Shaq and Kobe not get along in the 2nd biggest market. If Durant and Westbrook fall out it will have nothing to do with them playing in OKC.

I agree D12 in L.A. doesn't make much sense from a winning titles stand point. It would be almost like D12 in ORL now once Kobe slows down completely. Like Ex said at this point I think Pau is a goner and they would have to trade Bynum.

You're right in one sense, but depending on the new CBA, it's gonna take time for them to build a team to contend with the already formed Miami's, OKC's, Chiacgo's, hell even the NY's and Memphis' of the world.

I guess what I'm getting at is, I wouldn't be too quick to put LA in the "contender" category just because they got Dwight. Contender in terms of for years to come. It's gonan take time for them to build around Dwight.

I'd make the Lakers viable contenders if they can pull off the Dwight Howard deal. I don't think it'll happen BUT outside of trading away Kobe I think LA could very well be in the championship hunt.

I mean after Kobe leaves. Of course if Dwight came next year, LA would be contenders for a few years.

Kobe is on his way out very soon, and after he Tim Duncan's/Shaq's, LA will be looking to start fresh.

Los Angeles will be in rebuild mode regardless, in no more than two years.

Even if LA nets Dwight, in two years they will be starting from scratch again. Odom will be old. Pau will be old. Kobe will be done. Bynum wouldn't be there if Dwight was there.

I would say thats better for LA at that point.... I mean to establish their future past the phil/kobe era

Its been a really long time, but im sure they'll be able to build back up again in much less time than the Knicks

Of course it would be better if LA can somehow get Dwight, my point is they wouldn't automatically be put on OKC's, Miami's, Chicago's level of contender status. Memphis, NY and maybe a few others may even still be ahead of LA.

It might be especially tough to build with the new CBA

It's gonna take them time to put guys in place, but like I said, I agree that since it's LA people will want to come and join forces with Dwight. There's no question about that, but that wasn't my point. There's gonna be at least a few down years if not more.

That's if there is nothing to the rumors and everything really is "all good" with that locker room.

I agree wholeheartly if I'm Dwight I'm looking to be apart of something that can compete for the next 5-7 years not 3 max. Maybe you guys can lure another big talent to make the transition, but right now L.A. isn't that great of a destination.

I really don't see the need to be apart of a huge market anymore. With the age of media we're in now being great and winning supercedes a large market.

Ex, we need more Laker Fans like you man.

You're literally one of the absolute few realistic Laker Fans out there because everyone else seems to think that if Dwight goes to LA that the Lakers will be contenders for YEARS and that Kobe will never get old.

Well, I meant next year. But your right. Even if Howard is there, LA will have to rebuild when Kobe retires. I figured that Kobe might have 2 more seasons where he's somewhat playing an above average level of an NBA 2-guard. Then I can see his last season like Jordan's was with the Wizards.

But I don't think it'll be long for them to rebuild after Kobe leaves. The Lakers are one of the few franchises who don't dwell in the cellar for too long. As long as I've been watching the NBA, I may have seen a Laker team under .500 maybe three times? And with the prospects of building around Howard, it makes it a much easier transition.

Jordan's last season with the Wizards was basura so I hope Kobe doesn't decide to go as long as Jordan did.

While I think LA and BOS will be around for a short time longer.....Im pretty excited about the teams of the future..

we have the team to hate in MIA
we have the team everyone loves in OKC

                            CHI
                            MEM etc.

Some exciting young teams on the come up.....

                            thoughts?
its the opposite for me i hate okc and love me some heat. but yea, i think the "veteran" (old) players are being pushed aside for faster young players

the changing of the guard is going to be in full effect once the finals is over. this is probably dirk's last chance. this was probably kobe's last chance. same with duncan and the spurs, and garnett and the celtics. the new guys are taking over, and it's going to start with the heat winning the finals. the young teams will only get better from here on out, and the old contenders will only get older. that's the cycle of the NBA.
