I would take Nash at his prime. But Kidd was a beast too. He took a Nets team to back to back finals.

Re: J. Kidd or S. Nash?

If we're talking today, it's pretty close but I think Nash's elite offensive contributions make him more dynamic than Kidd's defense and spot-up shooting ability.

If we're talking 2-3 years ago it's Nash in a landslide.

If we're talking pre-microfracture Kidd, it's Kidd by a landslide.

Both guys in their primes, it's also Kidd by a landslide.

J.Kidd's style of play has got him to 3 NBA Finals

S.Nash style of play has got him to 0 NBA Finals

So one of these guys seem to be the type of player you can win in the playoffs with and the other guy seems to be the type of guy you can get nice stats with but at the end of the day he's going home every year.

Ignoring the fact that there are 11 other players playing on the team, lol. You're right. Nash hasn't been to 3 NBA Finals like Kidd has. He's just been to 4 WCFs. No big deal. Obviously Nash can't get it done and is just a stat-filler.

Tell me what team kidd had when he went to finals ? Like k mart and RJ ? Seriously ? While Nash had solid team all these years . You are all talking about kidd like he had such a good team all these years , though they werent good before kidd made them good , he made them play , he was a leader .

He was also in the Eastern Conference, which was straight up awful during the years that Kidd made the Finals with the Nets. Kidd, Jefferson, and Martin were studs back then. Add in role players like KVH, Kittles, MacCullouch, and Aaron Williams, and there was more than enough to get through.

I'm not taking away anything from Kidd, here. He obviously did some amazing things. I just think Nash has done some of the most remarkable things I have ever seen done with a subpar squad, and in a much tougher conference. Especially considering the adversity, the roster turnover, the injuries, and the bad luck that the franchise has had to go through in those years.

To be fair...Kidd got the Nets to The Finals twice when the East was a complete joke.It was dramatically weak and those Nets teams were just cannon fodder for the west.

Nash has had to go against some dynastys...LA, Spurs etc for almost his entire career.

I'd just give this to Kidd...just based on much, much better D + his nice post game that was really good when he was younger.

Nash is a better shooter odviously.

Both are amongst the greatest passers of the ball ever.

Yes, the East was garbage when the Nets made the Finals, but other than Kidd that was a terrible team. Honestly, top to bottom nobody on that roster has come close to producing at the level that they did when Kidd was spoon feeding them easy baskets and creating open looks for them.

Get back to me when anybody ever makes the Finals when the second and third best players are the caliber of Richard Jefferson and Kenyon Martin. Kidd in his prime epitomized "making your teammates better" more than any other player in NBA history.

I'm sorry but this is too easy....Even before Kidd won a ring. Kidd is Head and Shoulders over Nash. Kidd defense is what his teams go. He played in East conference or finals 3 years in a row I think.

                          2002 and 2003.

I think saying head and shoulders is a bit much though. Personally I'd go with J. Kidd.

As for who I would rather have, it depends on the team. If I'm the SSOL Suns, I would rather have Nash. If I'm the 04 Pistons, I'd rather have Kidd. Depends on the situation.
                            So true. Very different players.

                              The better question is;

Do you think the Mavs would have won the title this year with Nash?

That's a great question. My answer is probaby not. You can't have two liabilities on defense, like Nash and Dirk. Nash would make a good offense even better though.
