But I think number 24 is more likely to get retired instead of both. Those were the years he won big times. Compared to those Shaq years.

when they ask him, he'll probably choose #24, but #8 needs to be remembered.

has there ever been a player that wore two different numbers for the same franchise without leaving?

Lets not get off track here. The real question should be has any player ever had two numbers retired.

Earl Monroe, 10 and 15, Knicks and Washington.

Julius Erving, 32 and 6, New Jersey and Philly

Oscar Robertson, 14 and 1, Sactown and Milwaukee

No player has had TWO different numbers retired by ONE team thus far.

                      ^^ thanks ^^

Also the extra info was great as well. But not surprising. Those teams haven't done much in the league. Those teams have had players leave their team and win some where else. That sucks...

I'm thinking Orlando fans everywhere are praying to retire #12, amicably, for their first official retired jersey.

in theory, kobe could/should be the first to have two numbers retired, as he was hall of fame level under both numbers, individually.

I agree. I think once he's done they should retire both jerseys. He brought titles in both numbers.

Oh boy... I see where this is going....

The number 8 Kobe was a wild sidekick. Sorry... yes he scored a bunch of points in that jersey. But he never was "The Man" to win a championship. 24# in my opinion, give up all points and started playing more team basketball. That's the number that will and should be retired.

End of the day I think Kobe gets the say, and while I think the Lakers should retire both jerseys, I expect them to retire one. If Kobe chooses one, obviously its going to be 24. And don't doubt for one second that in him wanting to retire his #24, his disdain for Shaq that's brooded over the years has a part of him wanting to basically say "hey, my years away from Shaq were far more amazing than my years with him.".
