Re: Team USA 2012
If Brazil did this well, how will other challengers do against USA? It is a bit early to tell because it might take a few games for Team USA to gel and do really well.
I think USA's defense and athleticism is probably the best in the world and may help them to win gold.Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
As for the game, these guys are so instinctive with the NBA 3 point line, the closer line is giving them trouble. They shouldn't be shooting so many to begin with. That's exactly what any of these teams will want them to do... limit the fast breaks and force them to shoot outside shots. With no post presence, the US team gets sucked right into it. I'm already giving Iggy my MVP for this team. He's MUCH needed.Comment

Coach K ran a little post action to LBJ in the 2nd half, wonder if that will be the go to all tourney..Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
The 19 year old point guard was the guy who was constantly getting ripped...
Marchelinho Huertas is the point guard who was looking like Steve Nash.. he's 29 and plays for FC Barcelona [Ricky Rubio, Gasol brother's old team].. could easily play in the NBA but he probably makes a great salary overseas and has a much better view
See this is exactly why I said Rubio's absence will be huge for Spain. Not only did they already have an advantage inside, and obviously with their passing, but Rubio I felt would have really been that one aspect that could put them over the top. I believe he would have done a lot of the same thing Huertas did last night.
Except Spain is actually deeper and a bit more talented than Brazil... Spain won't run out of gas like Brazil did and they don't have inexperience anywhere. USA got lucky last night that Brazil's backups looked completely incompetent.
However I do have to admit their defense when on, looks very very scary. They can really get after it.. hell even Kobe looked like an All-World defender.
I really don't think KD should come off the bench, I think Melo should...Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
Team USA played an awful game against Brazil last night, that first half was horrendous. Lebron had to pull it together and make it game 5 of the finals last night here in D.C if they play like that in the Olympics they could be looking at Bronze once again.Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
I agree with Kobe that the idea is stupid. Not fair to have pros above the age of 23 from other leagues. It's all or none.
New York Giants (8 NFL Championships-4 Superbowls )
New York Yankees (26 World Series Titles)
New York Knicks (2 NBA Championships)
Michigan Wolverines (11 National Championships)
New York Rangers (4 Stanley Cups)Comment

As mentioned, I think it should just be as it is. If that ends up being all 23 and under, so be it.Comment

Re: Team USA 2012
The biggest issue though is owners worrying about injuries to relatively older players and players wanting to get paid (Ray Allen and D Wade spoke up about that). I don't see the dots connecting with making it 23 and under in terms of these issues, but I think that's where the idea came from. Guys just aren't going to get paid. If that's what you need to represent your country then just decline the invite and keep your mouth shut. In the same sense, guys should have the right to do whatever they want in the off season including representing their country so owners should speak to them privately about their feelings about it and otherwise keep their mouths shut.

Re: Team USA 2012
I think it's more about the owners deciding they want the lionshare of the revenue that those guys generate which is why they want to start their own tournament. If they were concerned about injuries, they wouldn't entertain the idea letting those guys play at all, but it'll be okay for Kobe and those guys to play in their tournament that they control the revenue of.Comment
