Re: NBA Lockout and Collective Barganing Agreement Discussion

Well, I'm still sticking to my guns and saying that the season is still going to start on time. I understand that an announcement will be coming today in regards to cancelling some pre-season games. We'll see later on. Even if that happens, the 82-game season still can be salvaged.

And 24th Letter, your right about the NFL talks. If I can recall, about 10 days before they ratified the CBA the courts had just ruled that the lockout was legal. I remembered when that happen I was thinking that the NFL was about to sink to the 10th level of 'lockout hell'.

Why is everyone bringing up the NFL lockout?

Clearly both sides during the NFL lockout were more competent than these idiots representing the owners and players.

      Seriously.

LOL. Uh no they werent. The NFL had no real issues between them and it still took until a week before the preseason before they were able to even get a deal break through. NFL teams arent losing money and there were really no significant changes made to the salary structure in the current deal. It was 5 months of fighting over how revenues would be split.

The NBA's situation is much different and will take much more time. Both sides were stupid for taking this long to start negotiating but lets not act as if the NFL did it the right way.

I have no idea whats going on. I took yesterday's meeting as a sign that things are going bad and then I read this:

Berger is one of the more level headed reporters following this lockout.

            EXACTLY!

Especially the NFLPA. You could tell that their legal counsel did not do their homework. They decertify and then file an anti-trust lawsuit in the 8th circuit court. A court that's notoriously anti-union.

Yep, we're going to get a lot of these. We're also going to get the gloom and doom reports as well. That's why I'm not going to get excited nor frustrated when I see these things.

I'll give them credit, the people in the negotiations is really working their magic in diverting the public's attention. "Give them a 'little of this and that' BUT don't give them what we're really talking about."

There's not enough room on the page to show exactly where Hunter is.

I couldn't disagree more. Goodell has shown nothing to prove that he is more compentent or a better representative than Stern. People on OS just have a thing about Stern and love to blame him for the NBA's ills.

LOL and Smith...Jesus. He just signed one of the worst CBAs in NFLPA history for players and total overplayed his hand with decertification. Hunter on the other hand has negotiated 2 straight great CBA's for his players and is unwilling to fold to the agents and decertify.

Not really. Even if the meeting was great yesterday, the NBA probably would have still cancelled those games. Panic time comes the second week of October.

Seriously, Smith's move to decertify was so bad that he actually held a conference where he told the NBAPA to not do it because it was such a bad move.

I'm actually surprised how this is going right now. Thought it was going to be much bloodier than what we are seeing right now. In fact, the civility is very reassuring.

I'm thinking basketball in October is a no go, but in November, absolutely.
