Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
I did a thread with the best perimeter defender in the NBA now i'm doing the best post defender, I think Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, and Kendrick Perkins are all good but as far as the best i'm not sure. I like Kendrick Perkins as far as guarding guys who have there back to the basket and against slower footed guys who face him up, but against quick low post defenders he has his problems. Any how who do you guys think is the best? As for me I cant really pick between the 3.Last edited by PaperChasing59; 09-22-2011, 07:11 PM.Tags: None -
Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
Dwight Howard, the guy who'll win like 10 DPoY awards before he retires. -
Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
This has gotta be Dwight, honorable mention to Chuck Hayes though. Undersized center with a strong base.Comment

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
The easy answer is Dwight. But to me he's nt thhe best post defender. To mi its Perkins. Dwight is above average but Perk is better locking dwn one on one. Dwight is a better help defender(hence the blocks) and rebounder though which is y he wins DPOYComment

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
Jason Collins, Nick Collison, Kendrick Perkins, Desagna Diop, Kwame Brown, Chuck Hayes, and Joel Anthony.
All are physical and leave bruises. Dwight Howard is easily lifted by any kind of fake and lacks the awareness and focus to be a top notch man defender. As usual, the media is duped by block totals. Kevin Garnett lacks the mass to be a top notch low post defender.Last edited by AlexBrady; 09-22-2011, 09:34 PM.Comment

Wondering why Desagna Diop is on your list.
Kwame Brow has improved I just wonder why it took him this long.
Now Chuck Hayes is a very underrated defender. He's a throwback.
I'd agree with your Howard assessment. Howard is a better weakside defender than anything. BUT if he had to guard someone straight up who had a solid post game, he'd be in trouble.
Garnett in his prime was a very solid post defender. Probably the best about 2-3 years ago. I think your looking too much into his weight. Garnett is stronger than you think. He may not be the best now BUT he's still pretty effective.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
not that he's the best, cause he certainly isn't, but i'm throwing in Kurt Thomas name in the "under appreciated" category. he does a great job getting inside the opponents head. and if you watched bulls games this year when he's on the court he's going to come away with a clean strip at some pointComment

Jason Collins and Joel Anthony foul way too much for my taste.

Garnett is energetic and is an outstanding team defender. He gets really low/wide and swallows up screens but he needs to be paired with a powerhouse center.Comment

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
Agreed on Collins and Anthony, but at least their fouls are vicious. Yeah, Howard is an excellent team defender and he covers for his teammates but his man defense is below average.

John 4:23. He is seeking a seeker.
John 3:20. Say no to normal.Comment

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
Kwame Brown has always been a really good low post defender. DeSegana Diop, Chuck Hayes, Jason Collins and Nick Collison are good mentions. I personally think Etan Thomas is a good one as well.
Anyway, the main thing I wanted to post here is that I think people have to differentiate between those who are good/great post defenders and those who are good/great pick & roll defenders (big men category). Bigs like Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard and Joakim Noah are great P&R defenders because of how long, mobile, athletic and instinctive they are. So is Kenyon Martin for that matter. However, these players are all mediocre post defenders.

Re: Best Low Post Defender in the NBA
For sure, he is an excellent shot blocker and he scares ball penetraters into missing layups. The few teams that can make the quick drop off/swing passes and off ball cuts give him the most trouble (Boston, Los Angeles, San Antonio).Comment
