You don't have to be a great offensive player to be a team leader or centerpiece for a ball club. (see Wallace, Ben and Russel, Bill)

Ehh...it weren't weren't so damn fragile and soft he would be way better than Dirk and probably one of the top three players in the NBA. Ever since he found a jumper he seems to float outside a little too much and he's become averse to physical contact. I actually miss the Webber that couldn't shoot but led the league in rebounding in '99.

Dirk is an amazing offensive player but his defense is downright offensive too Seriously, have you guys ever seen Dirk lock up someone? Dude gets pushed around is incredibly inept at shutting down the paint for someone who is 7 feet tall. People seem to get caught up on how versatile he is on the offensive end yet he can't seem to translate that versatility to at some serviceable toughness on the defensive end. Regardless of who is better, I would think that guys that play both ends of the floor (Duncan, a fit Shaq, and dare I say it Kobe) are ultimately more valuable.

i'd pick dirk anytime. dirk is a better shooter and can shoot from anywhere in the field. i think webber's advantage is the low post and passing. but at least dirk is not injury prone, unlike C-Webb.

Dirk's offense overshadows his D, but he is a very good defensive player. He can guard the 3, 4, or 5. How many 7 footers can you say that about? Dirk is no longer irk.

Dirk has developed into a very good defensive player. I know because i watched most of the Mavericks games last year. When you watch him this year, really pay attention to what he does on D. it wont compare to what he does on offense, but you will see that he is a good defender. I dont know any 7 footers who can defend on the perimeter like him, and he is above average inside. He is also one of the best defensive rebounders in the game.

Watch him closely (for more than one game) and you will agree. Sure, he will have some bad games but everyone does, and when you see some guard driving past Dirk, remember that he is a 7 footer and shouldnt be able to guard players like that in the first place, but he does.
