This isn't just "Sterling being Sterling", as easy as it is to throw that out there.

You don't give up all of that to use CP3 as a rental. CP3 better sign on the dotted line before I give up all that.
So 2 years is a "rental" now? For a team that hasn't even sniffed the playoffs?

Come on, CP3 ain't gonna resign because of DeAndre Jordan OR Tyson Chandler being there.

And honestly, I'd wonder about the chemistry between Monta Ellis and CP3 since CP3 would probably me more inclined to get David Lee involved.
Since you go on sources...didn't they say CP3 said he would sign an extension with GS if they signed Chandler? That's what I heard.

Chemistry? Is there some great chemistry now between Monta & Steph?

We have garbage holding up training camps at this point.

Just trade Dwight for Paul. Problem solved.

Uh, yes? CP3 said that for him to even opt into that second year, LAC would have to keep its core intact. AKA not trade Gordon.

So I'm not sure what's not to understand here.

The chemistry between Steph and Monta may not be "great" like, say, Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah, but it's working. Monta wants the ball, which works because GS can run their offense through Steph and Monta. Trade Paul to them, and he'll look to get everyone involved. I can bet if GS were to get Paul, Monta would want out.

But that's besides the point. If the selling point for CP3 was Tyson Chandler, then he should have no problem signing in LAC. Blake is better than Tyson. Heck, Emeka is at least on the same level. But we're all going on sources, unless you have some inside connection we don't know about.

Yes, please on the BD to NYC stuff. I think that'd make the Knicks the favorite in the East, personally.

Sterling said that's too much. But $43M and $24M to DeAndre Jordan and Caron Butler isn't "too much"?

                        Exactly.

We're talking "core" with the Clippers. This can't be life.

I think CP3 will be a Clipper before the season starts.

Stern is trying to get more than he can bargain for. Sterling is just playing 'hardball'. They both know that if CP3 does not get traded, NOH loses big in the off-season and thats the main reason Sterling is playing hardball. Because no team is going to give up that much during the season.

I just don't see how Stern is going to get better than the LAC offer right now.

Even so, by trading Gordon away, you're not doing what CP3 wants. That's why I'm not mad at Sterling for being hesitant to signing off on it. No Gordon=no guarantee that CP3 even opts into the player option for the second year.

If I'm Sterling, I stick to my guns and make CP3 sign a long term extension if I'm trading Gordon away. Don't think for a second that CP3 wouldn't simply go down the hall and change locker rooms the following year to join Kobe.

I'm not sure you're understanding. Stern is asking for:

                              Eric Gordon
                              Chris Kaman
                              Al-Farouq Aminu
                              Eric Bledsoe
                              2012 MIN !st round pick
                              ANOTHER pick from the Clippers

All for Chris Paul, and MAYBE some other scrub. I can't imagine it would be Jarrett Jack because he's be NO's best PG at the moment.

Now, according to CONFLICTING reports, some say the Clippers don't mind giving either Eric Gordon OR the MIN pick with no extra pick. Some say Eric Gordon was never in the deal, and that it was the MIN pick and Bledsoe. Some (namely ESPN/Broussard) are saying Gordon was always in the deal, including Bledsoe and the MIN pick, and Stern just wants another pick.

At this point the only thing we know for sure is that it was submitted and apparently someone pulled out.

Then the Clippers need to tell Stern flat-out, "Take this deal, or CP3 will walk next year and you get nothing."

At this point, if the Clippers deal doesn't get done, no one will want to deal with Stern.
