That other side of why people don't like the humble athletes getting praised is because there is a misnomer of those type of athletes being 'non-aggressive'. Those athletes don't seem to have a fire lit under them, whereas in the case of Rose, that's far from the truth. Same with Durrant and others with this label.

I agree the media plays they're part in this stuff, but let's not act like it's all on the media. The media didn't have an hour long special to announce a decision. The media didn't hold a championship rally after a free agent signing. The media didn't say 'not one, not two...' the media isn't claiming all they care about is winning, meanwhile only listing glamour markets as the place they'll sign extensions. The media didn't make a toast at Carmelo's wedding. Again the media has it's blame, but it's certainly not as simply as guy doesn't say anything and then the media takes the ball and runs with it, making him a hated figure.

I don't have a preference, I view these guys as human though....

There's no telling how these two will respond in similar situations... Then again I dont think Dwight and Chris (even though I hate him on the court) are the worst people in the world. I think media attention is too often confused with the player seeking attention.

The decision happened. It was awful. It will never happen again. No ones defending it, and the majority never will, it's time to move on.

If Dwight and or Paul never said a word, we would still have the same exact exhausting coverage until they land somewhere.... If they asked for a trade to San Antonio or Minny, it'd be the SAME damn coverage lol...Yes, players play their part, but it's blown to **** proportions...

Yeah I don't have a problem with players switching teams, just don't be a douche about it. Maybe people forget that the alternative is to just let your contract run out and then walk, blindsiding your team so they don't have a chance to get something for you when you still have value. I also have a problem with teams planning out ways to make super teams together, but I find that drastically different than seeing a good team and wanting to go there.

I think we feel the same way about this for the most part. I'm not arguing that the **** isn't blown up, because it most certainly is. However what I disagree with is the notion that players are innocent in all this cause they aren't. I'm over the decision, have been for a while, but I bring it up cause that's an example of the player blowing something up bigger than what it was moreso than the media. That free agency would've gotten hyped beyond belief just fine without the championship celebration, decision and Wade and Bosh needing to go on Sportscenter together to announce where they're going.

The bulk of your examples are in one situation that I think most people were disgusted by. You mentioned Chris Paul giving a toast at a wedding (and everyone knows how I feel about that, lol) but that's not the same as calling a press conference or even having an interview about it. That's the media scraping the bottom barrel to drum up a story. Taking "the toast" out, I don't remember anything that Melo, D12 or CP3 have said directly to the media or anyone connected to fuel these discussions. Basically they let their teams know their intentions if they aren't traded (which gives the teams a chance to recoup some value) and the stories snowball.

I'm certainly not saying any of them are innocent, and morally it'd be great if none of these guys ever wanted to go anywhere (maybe... that extreme isn't really ideal either). But free agency is part of the game so I find it hard to be mad at players that want to exercise their rights within the rules (outside of extra stuff like "The Decision"). Billups' statements were garbage, I'll give you that. But lets look at the lesser players. Is Battier wrong for going to Miami? Would it be worse if he said he was planning on doing it last year and it resulted in a trade back then?

The extension this year was a no brainer, so I obviously meant after that....

FWIW, Melo's situation is/was nowhere near the same as Lebron, CP3 or Duhwight's as far as how it started, just to clarify.

I would direct anyone still questioning whether Derrick will pull a LeBron or anybody like that to his press conference today. Maybe he has us all fooled and knows how to say the right things, but I find that highly unlikely. I think dude, like Kevin Durant is just wired differently than these other guys and him tucking tail and running to an easier situation just isn't in his DNA.

How could you not like Derrick Rose? After seeing that interview, I'll always be a fan of his (already was before that). All he wants to do is win. It's like the $94.8MM was just a footnote. The sky really is the limit for him.
