Yea, I think we need to give the Jazz time to gel. First game in a lockout shortened season with a new head coach and a new system.
They have some talented young pieces with Kanter, Milsap and Jefferson. Miles is a solid player and good perimeter defender. The key to their success lies in the hands of Devin Harris. If he can score like he did with NJ and lear to better get teammates involved, they could make a run late in the regular season once they pull it together. Getting Josh Howard to return to form would be a big bonus as well. He's just got to stay healthy.
Also, Im not ready to write off Gordon Hayward yet. I saw flashes last night that made me reevaluate him a little. Made a few really nice passes on the break, and made some nice isolation moves on Kobe and Metta. So its good to see him create a couple shots for himself, which was a big question mark. He didn't shoot it all that well, but that will change, he's a good shooter.
The thing I like about Utah is their frontline depth. Although Kanter struuggled a bit last night, I would love to see Utah use that their advantage. I would like to see a lineup with Kanter/Milsap or Jefferson/Favors at the 3. I think he is athletic enough to defend the 3 position effectively, plus would be a huge size mismatch on the offensive end. That could potentially free up Harris/Miles or whoever on the perimeter. Plus they would be a rebounding force. I think without an elite wing player, that's a strategy they should look at moving forward.
