    Re: 2012 NBA Draft Discussion

Talking about top 10 picks who are going to be impact players is easy. Who are the players you guys think will be impact players (Solid top 6 rotation guys on a winning team) currently projected outside the top 20?

I like Vandy's upper classmen, Jeff Taylor and John Jenkins. Both have good size and athleticism for their positions (6'7" 226 and 6'4" 215 respectively). Both showed improvement every year at Vandy with Taylor's 3 point percentage going from 22% as a frosh to 42% as a senior and Jenkins leading the SEC in scoring with EFFICIENCY (47, 44, and 84 were his percentages).

I also like Draymon Green from Michigan St as a Brandon Bass type small forward and Scott Machado as GREAT back-up and eventual starting PG in the 2nd round (A little Andre Millerish).

        Re: 2012 NBA Draft Discussion

I will admit, the only time I really follow college basketball is around March, so my assessment may be way off.

I understand Davis is almost certainly going #1. However, after watching the games during the tourney, he seems, to me at least, a bit...awkward. Now, I do realize he had a wicked growth spurt recently, so it could be that he's still getting adjusted to his new length.

Unfortunately, I feel that he will be embarrassed trying to play the 3 against guys like Durant or LeBron, and get pushed around by players like Stoud and Howard at the 4 and 5 respectively.

I don't want to sound negative, as I believe he definitely has potential, but I just don't see him making a big enough impact year one to warrant a #1 pick. Is my opinion distorted because I haven't seen the entire season?

Davis should never be compared to Kevin Durant, LBJ or anyone of that nature.

That is making an assumption that he is some sort of scoring machine.

Why can't a guy be a #1 pick simply because he possesses an incredible defensive basketball IQ, instincts and length?

          Even Marcus Camby.

Marcus Camby could score in a variety of ways at UMass. Remember him and Tim Duncan comparisons.

Davis changes the game on the other side of the floor. And if he develops any sort of offensive game, it's icing on the cake.

Agreed. Dominant defensive big men literally change the game for everyone around them. Look at both conference finals series and how much Boston and San Antonio's D suffers when KG or Tim Duncan take a breather and the way Tyson Chandler helped Dallas stop Miami last year. If Davis can offer that type of D and 14-18 ppg he's definitely worth the #1 pick.

I'll just also add that the Hornets shouldn't care one bit how he compares to anyone after year one... just that he's progressing. That Bobcat team is awful and wouldn't be winning next year if they grabbed Howard and Deron Williams in the offseason, so nothing Davis does will matter in that regard.

I wasn't comparing him to those players necessarily, just thinking of the potential matchups he will face, and based on what I've seen, he does not match up well at all against the higher level forwards. How is that making an assumption he is a scoring machine?

He actually reminds me of Joakim Noah more than anyone else.

Well you mentioned the best players in the league... future HOFers. Nobody matches up well against them. And only talking year one to boot, bc there's no telling how he develops. Especially defensively where he's already got an extremely solid foundation being only a year removed from high school.

The most important thing for him is his Defense, Monty preaches defense and that will obviously get him the opportunities on the floor to then develop his offense.

MKG does not have a great outside shot, everyone knows this. But that is certainly fixable. Cal didn't work on it (his mechanics are not good) because he knew he would have one year with him and the last thing you want to do is mess with his head emotionally and hurt his confidence. He works harder than anyone and is extremely coachable. The jumpshot will get worked on and at the very least will be respectable in a reasonable amount of time.

With that said, MKG isn't less athletic than pretty much anyone. He is as athletic as they come.

I was really settling in with Beal or MKG. Nothing against Robinson but just something doesn't "feel" right with him going at 3 and/or to the Wiz for me. Can somebody talk me off the ledge?

I think Robinson at three is a steal. A great character kid. The improvement he made from this year from last is right there with any other player. Yet he still has enough potential to get better. Mature mentally and physically. He's a more phyiscally gifted Paul Milsap. He's my choice for ROTY.

I want Robinson but he's got to measure out to 6'9" or have 7' + wingspan to make up for the height.
