Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
As far as building around Rondo..I can't see that working. Unless your point guard is along the lines of a Derrick Rose, Chris Paul, Deron Williams type - I don't think you can do that. Rondo isn't near the offensive player that they are. He's a tremendous passer, but he's no threat to go off for 40 points on a given night. Also, I think Rondo is the type of player who is best suited to be a complimentary point guard, surrounded by guys like Allen & Pierce.
Didn't he just go off for 32, 15, and 10 against the Bulls Sunday night? His jumper is pretty nice now, a lot of people are sleeping on his offensive ability. He just tries to get all the other guys involved, maybe a little too much. But I bet that's more on Doc than Rondo.
I agree he needs players around him to be most effective, but at some point you need to cut your losses. I think they could get a decent amount of value by trading Allen and Pierce.Comment

Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
Rondo might not be able to drop 40, but he is a "Point Guard". He does everything else exceptional, with the exception of FT shooting.
Edit: Didn't he have just back to back 30+ Point games?
Rondo-Green is a decent combo to build around if they do decide to start rebuilding and they have a pretty darn good GM in Ainge and I think he'll get the players to come to Boston.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
That has no need in the discussion. You know good and well Rondo was not the reason they won that ring, so to act like he lead them there is stretching it...really far.Comment

Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
Just blow it up and build around Rondo and (hopefully) Jeff Green, with Paul Pierce being the veteran presence in the starting lineup. Maybe see what E'Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson can do with more minutes, especially if they aren't sure about green. I don't think Johnson would be a bad 4 who can play the 3.Comment

WOW...
Maybe we were watching a different season than each other. If my memory strikes me correctly, the big 3 were managing him. They could have stuck any half way decent PG in that lineup and won the ship. Rondo was nothing special at that time.Comment

Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
I hate Boston more than any other, but Rondo was BIG for the Celtics in 07-08 & really began to come into his own.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagreeComment

Re: If you were Danny Ainge...
There's a difference between benefiting from having talent around you, and actually making them better.
I will agree that he stepped up in those 2 games in the Finals, but to say that he was the reason they got there, and that he lead them to that ship is taking it too far. Now this season if they make it, then I will concede.
Agree to disagree I guess.Comment
