Re: If you were Danny Ainge...

I say just keep the team in tact for the remainder of the year and then let Garnett and Allen walk at the end of the year. Then just hope that Howard doesn't get traded this year and make a serious run at him in free agency.

The Celtics will be hard press to get value out of trading Garnett or Allen. The only teams that will trade for them are teams that's in contention. And those teams don't have high draft picks nor are they willing to give up their talented young players.

I could see Memphis trading OJ Mayo and maybe a pick for Ray Ray.

No one is going to trade for Garnett though.

No one's going to trade for 14-8 and a guy that still plays great defense.

Given won't get great value for him, but should get something of value even with declining skills.

The hurdle is Garnett has a giant contract even if expiring. Hard to match up numbers while it still making sense for both sides.

Wasn't aware of that, that makes more sense.

              Think something like 21 million.

Yeah, as Drewski said it's not his production that makes him untradable, it's his 21+ million dollar contract.

Gotcha. That's why your comment threw me off guard. knew he had a big contract, didn't think it was that large.

What kind of value do you see them getting or Pierce if he's traded. He's been playing really well from what I've seen.

Shoot me. I always thought it was about making the players around you better and winning. Not one of those other PGs have a chip. They have some hardware between them...but not that grand prize.

                      Wow..
Way to misinterpret that. We were talking about Rondo potentially being a franchise guy, I was saying that a franchise guy (even a point guard) has to be able to carry the load on night when his teammates can't get it going. Rajon Rondo is not that guy. He gets 25 and 30 at times now, but it makes it pretty easy when the defense is playing out on Pierce, Allen, & Garnett, leaving the lane open.

That's what makes Paul, Rose, & Deron legitimate franchise changers; when their teammates can't get it going, they can step up and have a huge game. I see Rondo as a step below them, in that regard. He's best suited for playing with at least one outstanding scorer, and probably another good scorer, so that he isn't asked to routinely put up 20+ points per game.

and please don't sit there and use the ring argument. You put Chris Paul with Garnett, Allen, & Pierce in their primes, and I guarantee you they not only win a ring, but sweep through the entire playoffs. Same goes for Deron, Rose, or Nash. Don't try to make it seem like Rondo had won them a title. Hell, he didn't even play at the end of a majority of those playoff games; Sam Cassell did.
