So you think Rondo can defend LeBron? lol

I don't think YTG is the justification for Overreaction Sports. I think it's all of you Rondo folks going crazy every June, calling Rondo the best defender, playmaker, or what have you. Chris Paul is better than Rondo at nearly everything and is only 9 months older. So why is half of the NBA forum picking Rondo over Paul? The 9 months? Or is it because they're overreacting to his team's playoff success?

it isn't like he never guarded LBJ at times in the many games the Heat played Boston in the past 2 years...

Physically its impossible to guard LeBron but we are talking about LeBron here..The same guy who took a fadeaway on Rondo..

Maybe I should have used Kobe as a example?

If Rondo couldn't hold his own against those players. Doc would never had the match ups ..

Are you watching these games man?

and at "all you folks going crazy every june..."

This is the same guy who have been clowned ever since 2007 when he raved about Rondo when everyone else said they should get a new PG...Dont come at me with that BS man lol.

And maybe people are raving every year around this time about him because of his play? That makes sense don't it?

Sounds like you are "butt hurt" that people are voting for Rondo and not Paul.

        As usual, we're done here.

No sense in arguing with you.

I'm not arguing here man. I really didn't even want to comment anymore in this thread after my first post.

It's fine, you pick Paul..Ok no one is debating you and no one is saying Rondo is better (at least I didnt) but don't get upset when someone else pick another player. Geez

I'm not upset about anything. You can pick whomever you wish.

It's a fantasy world and you're the GM. ****, pick Kirk Hinrich to start your team. I really don't care.

But you can't convince me he's a better player than Chris Paul. Not happening. And I don't even care for Chris Paul. My basketball allegiances are as follows: Bulls, Illinois players, guys from Chicago. That's pretty much it. But I'm not defending Rose or Deron Williams because I don't think either is the best PG in the league right now.

I seen a couple miss leading post and responded with my opinion.

Like I said earlier, the Paul comparisons weren't really directed at you.

When I say Rondo folks, it's the guys who think he's the best ____ in the league. The only thing I can consider close to true is saying he's the best passer in the league, but that's very debatable. But yeah, those people have mostly backed away from the thread because people call them on what they're saying.

You can take Rondo if you want, and I know you always will. I'm not "butt hurt" (seriously?) over anything.

To be quite honest.... when I think about times in the past where people are discussing Rondo on these forums, there are a couple of guys who "over" praise Rondo and then every one else comes in and more or less bashes him. This is honestly the first time I have ever seen Rondo get this much love. Maybe I'm just not reading enough though.

I still think CP3 is the one of if not the best in the league, however if i'm building a team/franchise i'd go with Deron cause he doesn't have quite the durability concerns

                        Deron Williams! Why?
                        1. Size - can guard either guard spot and play it for stretches
                        2. IQ - just plays the game the right way, i hate to spout out cliches but i believe that applies to him 3. passer and scorer-can do it all on the court

There's nothing Williams can't do great an he just has the size to put him over the top that others don't have.

                            CP3.

For all the reasons people have mentioned before.

But what also doesnt receive much attention is Pauls ability to close. He is one of the best closers in the entire league. Got to see a lot more of his games this year since he moved to LA, and he consistently comes up big when his team needs him to. This year, I remember seeing that he led the league in scoring in the 4th quarter.

You're not getting that from Rondo.

So give me CP3 then Deron in a close second.

Jukeman you have been going a bit overboard. You specifically mentioned his ability in the PnR. If you're not saying he's great at it then why even bring it up? Average defenders with speed can recover after getting caught in a pick. Rondo doesn't consistently play the situation well. It's actually a negative for him. My comment was based on that and the communication point. Yes he talks, which is great but he's also taken liberties with trying to get steals and switching on screens that have left his teammates to cover him (like when James got that open 3 I mentioned).

And he can not guard Lebron James... come on now. The biggest misconception in basketball (and I HATE this in pick up games) is that man to man D means you stick to your man and as long as he doesn't score you did your job. I'm not watching video of Rondo on James but I can give you an example of how I, as a coach, could see putting him on him...

The Heat have no big man to worry about so Garnett is basically playing a one man zone. With the players on the court, Lebron is basically playing PG. I can put a small quick guy on him and have him force the drive, funneling him into KG for a double teamed contested shot or a pass out of his hands. Just bc you saw him standing in front of James doesn't mean there was any expectation of him to be a shut down defender.

Honestly, the discussion is continuing bc of some over the top things being said on behalf of Rondo, not the other way around. I think everyone acknowledges that Rondo is a great PG but claims of the best in the league, and the reasons why are the only reason people are trying to calm all that down.

So I cant bring anything up unless a player is great at it?

And not every speedy guard can recover or roll off a screen after being hit with it man...

                                Don't forget he is 6'1 185 pounds..

Are you really going to sit here and act like I said he can guard LeBron James? In last year's matchup when Rondo guarded James (Mostly in the 2nd half) in a specific playoff game, James took advantage and backed him down. He did not blow by Rondo, James used his strength by posting him up every time. With that said, Celtics didn't give up easy points and actually made a run in that 3rd quarter...James also recorded 4 TO's. Boston won 85-82...

You specifically said "All he does is get steals, he's not that great of a defender most people think he is" but also says "He's one of the best defensive PG's in the league"..What does that even mean if you are claiming he doesn't do anything I said he does well? IMO, I don't think getting steals (or blocks) make you "one of the best defensive players at your position"

I pointed things out that he does well "compared to other PG's that has nothing to do with getting steals and said he can "hold his own against a Wade, LeBron or even Kobe if he's focused on staying with his man instead of going for a steal which is saying nothing more than he is a pretty good on ball defender.

I didn't go overboard with anything, just stating facts.

You keep mention the LeBron 3 but how many stops did they get when he switch? You're acting as if he all he does is swipe for the ball and gets beat. All the time. Which is ironic cause you just said "sticking to your man is a misconception in man 2 man basketball"

Go to your DVR and watch nobody else but Rondo. Then give more examples.
