I am ashamed the Nikoloz Tskitishvili isn't on your list. Arguably the GOAT.

It's part of the progress of sports. I'm pretty sure you thought that there was not gonna be another all round PG like Oscar Robertson until Magic Johnson came along. People in the late 70's thought they'd never see a talented freakish athlete from the two guard spot in David Thompson until Michael Jordan came along. WHo would have thought that someone would beat the 72 Lakers record for most wins in a season until the 96 Bulls came along. Wilt Chamberlian's all time scoring leader looked safe until Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came along. It's just how sports work. I hate to say it but eventually there will be another player that will be better than Michael Jordan. Is this player in the league right now? I don't think so. But I gotta feeling I'll see this player in my lifetime.

As for Lebron, I wouldn't put him top-10 all time just yet. He's getting there. Probably top-15 all time right now but another title and Finals MVP will get him a ticket.

I guess you put Luke Walton right behind Michael Jordan?

There have been thousands, if not tens of thousands, of players who have played in the NBA. This alone is reason enough to never make another top 10 list ever again. I try to look at it as a tier system. With the amount of tools LBJ has, athletic, skill-wise, and intangible, I would put him in the top tier.

I don't really think there's anything one could say to make the case that Pippen > LeBron at this point. And I think listing man to man defense as a weakness is kinda nitpicking. If I recall correctly, he was one of the best defenders in the league this year in every defensive situation besides low post. Isolation, pick and roll defense, closing out on shooters, etc; he was ranked as one of the best in the league.

I remember him making a mess out of Derrick Rose last year at times in the ECF. If you can even do a decent job of staying in front of that man when he's healthy, you're doing something right.

LBJ was ranked 83rd guarding ISO, 34th guarding PNR Ball Handlers, 64th when his man comes off a screen, and 30th when his man takes a hand-off. He didn't crack the top 100 in other scenarios. Rankings from mysynergysports and based off of points per possession given up in each scenario.

Good points, however freaks like Oscar, Magic, LeBron only come along once every 20 years or so. The NBA had always had incredible athletes and it was obvious the league was headed in that direction. The scoring and team records are meant to be broken, but it doesn't necessarily mean the player/team who broke them was better. There could be players that are on equal footing with Jordan, but its doubtful anyone will ever have his competitive spirit.

The vast majority of the stars of seasons past had superior fundamentals to go with their awesome talents. For me, those fundamentals are more important than the individual brilliance that is focused on today.

True, Pippen's skills were ideally suited for the triangle. But function is a vital consideration here. I would give Pippen the edge in passing, effectiveness w/o ball, man to man and team defense.
Stat based analysis tracks whether the shot was made or missed and not the whys or hows of defense.

Nope... try to argue with anyone and all they need to mention is that their favorite player didn't have to jump ship/join forces to get a ring. Not saying that he isn't a great player, but you can NEVER mention him with Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem etc.

Nope. Kobe needed Shaq to jump ship to dominate those years.

What if Wade / Bosh went to Cleveland? People would whine saying Bron needed their help.

I'm sorry, Jordan's teams were stacked too. Pippen, Rodman, etc

I think I meant to quote the post above you.

This. LeBron's Heat pale in comparison to the teams that those guys had.
