    Davis/Ayon/Nicholson

They'd have a whole roster of forwards and an awful bench. Turrible.
Well if you're trading off your star and are going to be bad you are best suited to be awful, being middle of the pack bad will keep you that way forever, might as well go all in for the #1 pick.

The Mavs are apparently going for that by not signing enough players to actually play a game.

Mavs have a game tomorrow that we don't know about?

            Ho ho ho.

But that does raise a question I meant to ask earlier, does the signing period end tomorrow at midnight or does it end at like 11:59PM on the 11th?

Signing period end? It hasn't started yet. Teams can officially sign players starting at midnight I'm fairly certain, though I don't think anybody ever actually does that.

Because Shumpert was able to perfectly funnel shots to Chandler while also getting a few steals by picking the opponent's pockets. Melo can't do that.
I like Shumpert. My comment was agreement in the logic that steals don't necessarily make you a good defensive player not about my own opinion of the Shumpert. I think he has the tools to be a very good defender and they will need one for the next 5 years. I don't have a problem with them deciding they rather have Lin and Shumpert than Nash.

But as history has proven time and time again, that games aren't won on paper.

The deadline for Bulls options on Ronnie Brewer's $4.37 million and C.J. Watson's $3.2 million salaries has arrived. A decision on Kyle Korver's $5 million option is due by Sunday.

In the wake of Kirk Hinrich's signing, Watson's camp already has been told his option won't be picked up. Brewer long has been considered the most expendable of the three because Jimmy Butler, last year's first-round pick, will assume his role.

Because of his shooting specialty, Korver has a slim chance to return and hasn't been told definitively either way. Sources said the Bulls are exploring sign-and-trade possibilities for all three players in an attempt to avoid losing assets for nothing.

One intriguing option would be swingman C.J. Miles, an unrestricted free agent who has started for the Jazz and could add athleticism.

Once Hinrich is signed, the Bulls will have roughly $67.3 million of committed salaries for nine players next season. The projected luxury tax line is $70.3 million, which the Bulls are almost certain to exceed for the first time in franchise history.

The Big 'O': Omer Asik is poised to sign his three-year offer sheet Wednesday with the Rockets, the value of which will be determined once the league's audit is finished Tuesday and salary cap figures are established. It will be worth between $24 million and $25 million, with a "poison pill" third year of up to $14.9 million.

The Bulls have until Saturday to match. General manager Gar Forman consistently stated the Bulls would match any offer for Asik, but a third-year maximum salary is the worst-case scenario for a team already paying Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah a combined $30 million in 2014-15.

Layups: The Rockets are open to discussing sign-and-trade options for Courtney Lee, who has interest from eight teams, including the Bulls. The Celtics and Pacers are the leaders to land Lee. ... John Lucas III is drawing interest from five teams now that it's unlikely he'll return to the Bulls after Hinrich's commitment. The Bulls originally had discussed signing Lucas to a one-year, minimum deal.
