I think the problem is that some of the big CBA changes dont take effect until 2014(not 100% sure on the year). But right now, its still a mess.

It was all about the cash. And to be fair owners WERE losing money hand over fist. So now, they can give out the same dumb *** contracts but still make money. It's protecting their money.

Also, next year, when the extremely strict lux tax kicks in, you'll see teams jumping ship on these contracts. Toronto is REALLY going to regret that Landry Fields contract when they have to re-up on Derozen.

I think Stern's idea was that NO was going to re-sign Gordon, still have a young Top 10 pick in Aminu, and still keep cap flexibility. Obviously that isn't working out either.

NO just needs to cut ties with guys who don't want to be there. It's poison.

This is true, but I REALLY wanted a hard cap. Hopefully the luxury tax acts as a deterrent in handing out some of these extravagant deals.

NO should at least do a sign and trade so they could at least get talent to build their team. Losing him for nothing doesn't help them.

It should because its no longer dollar for dollar like the last CBA, and it has increases as you go deeper into luxury tax.

Why didn't Gordon talk about his heart when NO was shipping contracts out just so they could afford to pay him?

Was it payback for trading for him?

                      That's cold.

Which is why I just don't think this is the end of it, he made comments and Monty/Demps said stuff that implied he'd be back no matter what.

Part of me just thinks back to what I already said, just doing this to get NO to match the max

Exactly, try and get Lopez or Morris as well and improve team even more.

So you mean to say he's reading the Dwight Howard Book of Public Relations.

I don't want a player who says his heart is elsewhere playing for my team.

He's telling you guys straight up and you're in denial.

Is Al Farouq Aminu any good?

And I may be just making this up, but wasn't someone (broussard maybe?) saying that anthony davis was going to make New Orleans just as attractive as places like boston or miami for FA's

                                This.

Plus no way NO lets him walk. I don't care what anyone says, but Rivers is going to be an absolute scrub in the NBA. I'm retaining Gordon at all costs. Any core that includes Rivers isn't going to one that gets you very far, and not one I would put any faith in personally.
