Re: NBA Movement Central 2012 (All Transactions 1st Page)
................
The Rockets attempted to acquire either Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum, but they were unwilling to give up as much via trade as has been previously reported.
Houston was only offering two first round picks, though one would have come from the Raptors and has protections to make it more likely to be a lottery selection.
Many had assumed the Rockets were also offering all three first round picks from 2012, but only Jeremy Lamb had been formally made available.
Houston would only offer two players from a group that included Marcus Morris, Patrick Patterson, Jeremy Lamb, Terrence Jones, Royce White and Donatas Motiejunas.
The Rockets also offered cap relief, but never the type that the Magic sought.
"I enjoyed working with Rob on a potential deal," Daryl Morey told SI.com via text message. "He went with what was best for Orlando and over time people will see that he has made a good decision. He has a plan for Orlando and he has proved his ability to execute a plan to make franchises great from his time in San Antonio and Oklahoma City."
Via Sam Amick/Sports IllustratedAndrew Bynum was introduced as a member of the 76ers on Wednesday where he was greeted by 2,000 fans.
Bynum is eligible to become a free agent next summer.
“To be honest, man, my first experience here has been so great I’m really leaning toward making this my home,” Bynum said.

Inside the Orlando Trade
Sources with knowledge of the talks said that wasn't the case with Brooklyn's most recent proposal. Before Brook Lopez's re-signing on July 11 ended the talks with the Nets because he could no longer be included in the deal, the Magic -- who had a chance to get four first-round picks (with Nets guard MarShon Brooks being traded to the Clippers, or some other third team, in exchange for one of the picks) -- had been against the idea of saddling their payroll with Lopez on a maximum contract (four years, $61 million) or, to a much lesser degree, power forward Kris Humphries on a deal that would guarantee him about $10 million next season. Most, if not all, of those picks would likely have all been late first-rounders based on any reasonable projections of the Nets' future (and that of the Clippers, if they had signed off on that deal).Comment

All of this adds up to me. Between Houstons offer being soft, and Orlando not wanting to spend cap on Brook / Hump.

I'd still take that Houston offer over the one they ended up agreeing to.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
NCAA: Syracuse
Soccer: USMNT/DC United

At that point its arguable. Less cap relief. The pool they'd have picked from isn't over the top with talent, Afflalo is better than most of those guys if not all. The picks might be better, but less in #. Not wildly better.

One of them would be a lottery pick. That alone makes it better than all of the picks they got.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Maybe. But its not just about the pick. Orlando factored everything, took quantity over a single lottery pick, while getting more cap relief, and adding Aflallo. Lottery talent doesn't always pan out, they took more shots in the barrel to hand choose.

I'm a big fan of Afflalo, but I'd take Jeremy Lamb and Donatas Motiejunas > him without the slightest hesitation.NFL: Bills

Lakers just used their TPE for Nash. The Nuggets used their Nene trade exception for Iggy. Wouldn't call it useless.
