REggie Evans is a good rebounder. Something the Nets have lacked since oh...Buck Williams.

And he can backup Lopez as well, barring that crazy Dwight trade speculation, but i'm sure the Lakers will have Dwight any minute now.

3 years, $5 Mil for the T.E. and a future second rounder

Yeah, I always liked what he brought to the table and he's dirt cheap. Nice move for BK.

For a second rounder years down the line no less. Why would LAC do that?

That Fields contract is awful, but you can't underestimate how badly Toronto needs Nash. They're completely irrelevant and are quickly starting to lose even their most loyal fans. If it takes giving out another dumb contract to a marginal player to bring in Nash, you might as well do it.

I mean, it couldn't turn out any worse than the deal Hedo got, right?

The Mavs are going to come out of free agency as massive losers the way its going. We might not even make the damn playoffs this year. Terry will always be a Mav in my book, hope he does well in Boston.

It all depends on if they actually land Nash. If he goes elsewhere then Colangelo just made one of the dumbest moves in recent memory.

Unquestionably, but it's a risk they have to take right now, as stupid as it is.

I almost feel like if they don't get D-Will they should just trade him to a big time contender for some young, promising guys and blow it up and build for the future 3 to 4 years down the road. Dirk wants to end his career here, but he should get another shot at a ring too. That's not gonna happen though.

Would REALLY love for Steve Nash to come back here. As soon as the Mavs find out D-Will is going to BK, they need to put the full court press on Nash.

The way I look at it though is that Jerome Jordan, Gadzuric and Douglas didn't even play so we're basically trading Shump for Nash. Those other three are replaceable with vet min deals. Novak, JR and Lin are all coming back (unless Novak gets an insane offer) and IMO that's the start of one hell of a bench. We'd need to find a decent defender for real cheap, Barnes maybe?

I know the 'win now' isn't guaranteed but we have a much better chance with Nash IMO.

Regarding the financials of it, I don't think it's a stupid move at all since Melo/Amare/Chandler are all on the books through 2015 anyway. This thing is either going to be a success or a giant mess for the next three years - adding Nash's contract wouldn't make it anymore of a mess since his deal would expire with everyone else's and we'd have a clean slate in '15-'16 and would probably only bring Melo back. Even if we win a title in the next three years we're going to go through a major roster shift anyway after '15. This doesn't impact the long term future since it's such an unknown in three years anyway.

This is probably our last chance to acquire a real difference maker in the Amare/Melo era. I'd roll the dice.
I get what you're saying. But IMO a solid bench cannot be taken for granted.

We have no idea on who's coming back amongst Novak, Lin and JR with all these poison pill deals going around from teams with tons of cap space.

I'm not a fan of Lin. I just want to see him develop here, not elsewhere. The entire league passed on him and I'd hate to have him for what amounted to half a season to see him just flourish somewhere else.

And with the way we were giving up draft picks...it's great to have a young, athletic guy like Shumpert in our stable. You don't give up on guys like that so early.

$20M for Landry Fields. I can't get over it.

And it makes me really nervous for what the best 3-point shooter in the league (Novak) is going to get offered and what Lin will get offered although we can always go over the cap to sign them.

Steve Nash & Dirk are not going to take Dallas to the promised land which is why the Mavs should be looking at FAs/trades right now which is what I said before.

But no...they're sitting on their hands waiting for ONE player.
