I do agree that it is a bit off to see Ray switch sides though. Doesn't matter which teams they are, it could be Golden State v Houston for three straight years in the playoffs, if say Steph Curry went to the Rockets in year 4, it would still be a bit strange.

As far as rivalries though, that's made up, that's a thing of the past.

AAU has killed any chance of there being true rivalries in the NBA.

Calling someone a traitor is beyond silly, bottom line.
    Bull****!!!!!

Spurs/Lakers, Heat/Knicks, Bulls/Heat, Spurs/Mavericks, and so on are still rivaliries. All of these guys that are in the league today aren't friends (Duncan and Garnett) and did grow up playing AAU basketball (Ginobili, Parker, Nash, Nowitzki and Duncan). Rivaliries will always exist, especially to fans, and will remain in some form or fashion.

Nash and Allen just prove that some old star veterans, like Payton, Barkley, Ewing, and Malone, will continue to switch alliances to chase rings. Makes respect Timmy Duncan and Dirk even more.

Was told half an hour ago by source with direct knowledge of talks that there is no imminent deal for Dwight Howard. FWIW. "
*Update, Ken Berger from CBS Sports* The Los Angeles Lakers have talked to the Magic about the Howard deal, but apparently nothing is imminent as of this point. Several sources have indicated that Howard being traded is not as certain as thought. *Original Story* The Los Angeles Lakers have been talking to the Orlando Magic […]

It's Carmelo Anthony drama all over again.

Those guys are all on their way out of the league fyi...

But yeah to fans, rivalries will exist. Between players, I wouldn't say that. Especially after this current batch of vets, i.e. all the guys you listed, exits the league.

My man not to come off mean or anything, but if you're going to insist on posting rumors that you read, you gotta learn the proper protocol of posting this stuff. Starting with putting it in quotes and linking it so guys can go look at the source for themselves.

That's what everyone was always saying about Nash.

Look what ended up happening, anything's possible. Don't be surprised if Dirk goes next, maybe not now but eventually.

                Agree completely, to fans? Absolutely

But for players? It's all myth & fairy tale's now

If you believe today's players when talking about "rivalries" you're fooling yourself. It's just lip service to please the fans. They don't care, in the end it's about what's best for them (in their mind, not yours), not the teams.

I don't think that. Rose injury hurt the chances of the Bulls Heat writing another chapter in what looked to be a promising battle between the two. It sounds like with Boston that Ray just doesn't want to be around Rondo anymore. Even though Ray was brought in at the same time as Garnett, I don't think he is seen as the face of the franchise so I don't think its exactly like Nash. Malone and Payton did similar things and they were a generation before Allen.

If you want to be a the glass is half full guy. You could spin Ray Allen going to the Heat as something that is trying to spice up a "rivalry" more. Riley going from the Knicks to the Heat is what set a potential Heat Knicks rivalry in motion.

Edit: Barkley went to Houston in hopes of a ring after Houston had eliminated Phoenix a couple times. Rodman played for the Bulls eventually.

So now we have both coast's version of Judas.

Nash on the west & Ray on the east.

All is correct in the balance of yin & yang now. For light to exist, we need to have some darkness lol. Crazy off season for sure.

I had a feeling Ray wouldn't go back to Boston and other than Miami there wasn't much destinations left after LAC got Crawford/Billups.

If you're a pure shooter, there really is no place better to go.

I dont see how having a rival would benefit the players at all. You are slimming down the amount of teams that can pay you money AND compete for a championship. (because rivalries are only between two good teams anyway)

Ray Allen is a unrestricted free agent and he has the right to sign where ever he wants to. Why do people hate him?
There has been news about him leaving Boston ever since they crossed him first and tried to trade him, but now when he's leaving after finishing his contract he is hated?

He went to our main competitor (apparently were not allowed to use the word rival in the NBA so I won't). No one here is going to be happy about that.
